    3. Are you near a Famil y History Center ?http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp (mormons microfilmed data from all over the world and have sites all over the world) they also have census records on microfilm . You mention Jame's sister -- did you find anything on her (you didn;t mention) was she buried in the plot purchased by Thomas? When did James parents arrive in the US? Were they married in Ireland or met here and married? Did you check NARA for immigration records? Was a funeral home used in those days? I wouldn't give up on the church because they didn't respond -- send another letter. What about churches near the cemetary or in West Hoboken? If Catholic -- St. Michael's Monastery in UC might be the logical prospect -- this was discussed recently -- no longer operative but someone recently indicated within the last 2 weeks -- the location of records -- also LDS Family history Center might have on microfilm -- search for West Hoboken. http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library/fhlc/supermainframeset.asp?display=localitydetails&subject=189103&subject_disp=New_Jersey,_Hudson,_Union_City&columns=*,180,0 (the total link did was too long so include the last part as a cut and paste) But this link lists resources for Union City -- church records & directories that are on microfilm. Rental of microfilm is 3.25 per roll using their viewer on site. Sometime libraries will obtain the reels as well. But look at their resources and note the microfilm # that you want. They also have a CD with all their reference material that you can purchase and browse through offline for around $10-15. I haven't used their material for NJ but did for foreign countries. CASEY, West Hoboken, Hudson County | I received a death certificate for James F. CASEY, 321 Mountain Road, West | Hoboken, NJ, who died on August 7, 1902. Currently I am at a "dead end" and | would appreciate any suggestions as to how to proceed from here. Here are | the paths I have taken: | | 1. Tried to find his birth certificate. It shows he was 52 at death, and | born in NYC, son of Thomas and Mary CASEY, who were born in Ireland. Thus I | tried to get James's birth certificate from NYC, but they said they are | unable to do it, because the birth records from 1850 are not available. | Dead end #1 | | 2. Tried to find his obituary. Went to the Jersey City library (also had | Bob Murgitroyd try to find it), and could not find his obit around any of | the days he died in the Jersey Journal. Also tried the Hudson Dispatch, but | the library was missing those microfilm files for those dates for the Hudson | Dispatch. Dead end #2. | | 3. Worked on the cemetary where he was buried. Found out the plot was | purchased by a "Thomas CASEY" in 1869 when (presumeably James's sister) died | in 1869. However, there was no Thomas CASEY buried there. Found out that | Thomas CASEY (from a NYC directory) lived on 130 Ninth Ave, NYC in 1869. | Found the closest Catholic Church to that address, wrote to them (with a | donation) asking for any data they have on the CASEY family. They cashed | the check, but have received nothing. Dead end #3. | | 4. Posted a request for a lookup on the census for Thomas CASEY for 1870 on | several "look up the census" in NYC for 130 Ninth Ave. No responses. Dead | end #4. | | 5. When I get to a big town library (I live in Florida with little or no | access to Census records, unless I go to Orlando, which is about 60 miles | from here), I will continue with the census work for the CASEY name. | | Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! | | Tom Novak | | | ==== NJHUDSON Mailing List ==== | Visit the Hudson County N.J.
