If you need any records from Trenton, I recommend Ann Boldt. Ann lives in Trenton and goes to the NJ Archives a few times a week. Her charge is 5.00 a record, but only after she finds it. She makes a great copy to send to you. Birth, marriage, death, Wills and census. AHBoldt@aol.com Marge
Ann has gotten me records as well, very quickly. Highly recommended. FYI - In terms of NJ vital records, there is the "short form" and the "long form". The short form is usually used for official purposes, like proof of identity at the DMV. The long form is more useful for the purpose of family record-keeping and genealogy. When writing to Trenton, you should always ask for the "long form". Beverly G. My father died in 2006. His death certificate lists the specific cause of death, the underlying medical condition and another condition that contributed significantly to his death. The funeral director obtained the death certificate from the borough in which the funeral home is located, not the borough in which my father died. -----Original Message----- "Beverly G. Several years ago, I got a copy of my aunt's death certificate and the cause was blacked out. I wondered why. I thought it was a mistake or something. I was wanting to get my grandfathers cause of death, he died in 1950. All my older death certificates indicated stroke and tb and things like that. I really wanted to know what they thought the cause of death was. Are you saying that relatives cannot know the cause of death anymore? Am wondering if anybody has access to Bayonne City Directories covering the years 1930-1950 ? Am trying to track down my relatives, they names were John Seibel, Lizzie Seibel, Martin Joseph Cassidy, Caroline Cassidy, Margaret Cassidy, Eveline or Adeline Cassidy, Kathryn Cassidy, Marie/May Cassidy, Florence Cassidy, Albert, August, Edwin or Howard Feori. I realize that these are a lot of names to look up, in the City Directories, however, since I live in Nebraska, it would be a long trip for me to come to Bayonne for me to do the research.
There is apparently a biographical entry with portrait on page 102 of "New Jersey: A Historical, Commercial and Industrial Review," by Ellis Meeker published in Elizabeth in 1906. See WorldCat entry: http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/7661774 Unfortunately the book is rather rare, even in NJ there are only 4 copies in libraries, but is publicly accessible here at Rutgers (the state university) and Ocean County library. You may be able to get a photocopy through interlibrary loan services provided by your local library. WorldCat shows no copies west of the Mississippi... Before coming to Jersey City, Stafford was president of Seton Hall University from 1899-1907 (see http://events.shu.edu/150/history.html). Stafford Hall there was named for him in 1960 (http://www.sohps.org/seton_hall_history%20walking_tour.htm). Perhaps the Noe Archives dept. there could provide more information: http://library.shu.edu/sc-homepage.htm There was probably an obituary in the Jersey City papers; the Jersey City Library does obituary look-ups for a small fee. I'm not sure if the Paterson library offers a similar service, but they do have a local history department.
