I've never been into St. Peter's Cemetery. From Tonnelle Avenue (also known as U.S. Routes 1 & 9), it appears to be properly maintained. It's difficult to believe that the Archdiocese of Newark, which has many revenue sources, would allow one of its cemeteries to fall into disrepair. The safety statement may reflect the cemetery's location. Although it abuts a very busy road, the cemetery is isolated. There are high speed roads on two sides and desolate, possibly abandoned, industrial/warehouse properties on the other two sides. In all likelihood, no one but the victim would notice a crime there. In contrast, Holy Name Cemetery has a busy road on one side and homes on the other three.
Does anyone know where I can locate an old copy of Winfield's History of Hudson County? I tried bibliofind.com but they only had 1st addition for $175. I don't want to pay near that amount. Joan

Hi. they are open by appointment during the week and on Sundays beginning at 9:00 am. I was there last summer on a Sunday. It is very diffiuclt to enter. You have to make a U turn on Tonnelle and come back on the entrance if you come off the Skyway. You also have to wait for a red light getting out and hope someone lets you out of the driveway. There is only room for one car in the driveway too. Good Luck. Rose - researching SCHICK, MORRISON, KREINER
Yes, Holy Name cemetery has the St. Peter's records. When I was down there about a year ago, the director said that St. Peter's was only open on Sundays but that if I needed to go there before that, he would send a caretaker with me. He said it was not safe but I'm not sure why. I would check first with the director before making any trips. Good luck. P.S. I would be interested what condition the cemetery is in, if you go.
St. Peter's Cemetery is on the south side of Tonnelle Ave., just before you get to the Tonnelle Circle and the ramp to the Pulaski Skyway. It is a very sharp right off of Tonnelle Ave. I don't think I've ever seen the gates to St. Peter's open so I'd call Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City to find out when St. Peter's is open. (Holy Name has St. Peter's records).

Does anyone know where St Peter's Cemetery is on Tonnelle Ave, Jersey City?
Am looking for an Adam Burger who is listed in the census for PA from 1850 to 1859 on CD317. Also there is an Adam Burger listed in the census for NJ for 1860 on CD318. Would someone be good enough to look this up for me and tell me what they find. Thanks. Judy in NC
My grandmother, Julia Andes, who lived on Grace St. in Secaucus until her death in 1964 was supposedly the first woman elected to the Hudson County School Board (or maybe it was the Secaucus School Board) according to her obituary when she died. I have tried writing to the Jersey Journal -- no response both times. I have even called them long distance twice with a promise that someone will get back to me. She moved to Secaucus with her family in 1906. She had 2 children after that until 1911. I am assuming she sat on the school board once her children were older and once woman were given the right to vote. So maybe all this occurred in the 30s or 40s. Does anyone have any suggestion as to where I can get this newspaper article about her being elected. I would love to know if it listed where she was born in Ireland. This is my brick wall!!! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Judy in No. Carolina
>From the Warren Republican , Friday 6/23/1899 Badly Burned Ada Lillian Willever, second daughter of Mr. And Mrs. J. Stewart Willever, aged 12 years and 6 days, was terribly burned last Saturday which resulted in death at her parents home on Plane street Sunday noon. Her clothing caught fire from a bonfire in the Institute grounds, and immediately her whole body was in flames. Some boys who were near by, hearing her her screams, ran to her assistance and smothered the flames. She was taken to her home and a physician called. She was badly burned about the back and shoulders, and lived until the next day at noon.. The girl was to have taken part in the Children's Day exercises in the M.E. church last Sunday afternoon. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon. I would like to thank everybody who responded to the my request for the TISCORNIA surname. As a result of all of your helpfull suggestions, I was able to locate the children of August and Evelyn Tiscornia. Even more important, I was able to locate Evelyn's scrapbook--which is a "treasure trove" of information, as she kept a scrapbook of all of the newspaper articles of all of the NOLAN family. Again, thanks--this bulletin board is great because of the wonderful people who contribute to it!
Hello all! I am wondering if anyone can tell me if and where I can find a marriage record for Frank AUFFINGER and Alice FAULDER, all I know is the marriage took place in either 1922 or possibly 1920. I don't know the church, city, or much else. Does anyone have a suggestion or starting point with this little info? Thanks in advance molly

For anyone interested -- I just found out that Union City is celebrating its 75th anniversity since in corp. in 1925. I called up the town clerk and they have a booklet and calendar with historic photos available. Claire
Is anyone out there familiar with the Tiscornia surname? I recently heard a story that a Mrs. Evelyn Tiscornia showed up at one of the funerals of the NOLAN family in the 70s, and she had a whole scapbook of pictures of the NOLANS. Anybody out there? Tom Novak

I'm searching for information about a great grandfather of mine. I believe that he may have been born on Staten Island, NY about 1878-1879 (about three years before they started with vital records there).(His parents are Stephen W. Johnson and Margeret Paynes) He married my great grandmother Carrie DeHart on October 23, 1898 in New York. They had one child. About 1902 he left them and moved to NJ. According to some divorce papers I found in my Gr. grandmothers Joseph Johnson was said to be living in Bayonne, NJ. This statement was given in 1923. My mother's dad thought that his father was living in Weehawkin. I have check thru some WWI draft stubs for Bayonne however did not find him. I suspect that he may have been seek a divorce inorder to marry for a 2nd time. I would be grateful if I could find some information out about him. Regards Bill
