    3. For a Hudson County wills, send a money order for $3.00 to Surrogate of Hudson County, 595 Newark Avenue, Jersey City, NJ 07306. Giive them the info you want looked up. They will respond within a week (in my experience) and send you a form with a price per page. Then send another money order for that amount and you will get the will in about another week. Good luck, Susan

    3. Probably not. NJ vital records start in 1878. That is the office you place credit card orders with. Birth records 1848 to 1878 are ordered throught the Archives Office. 3. I went in person and got a copy of the will. This is obtained from the surrogates office and cost $3.00 per page. You would have to indicate what you want of the will -- whether all or just the distribution. I also was able to get a copy of the death certificate which was part of the documents. There is other paper with it if you want like the surrogate filing. Everything could be as much as 12 pages. I wanted everything so I paid the price. My will was more recent -- 1975; I don't if there are complications regarding older -- but they were very good and efficient -- not like some of the other departments. they seem to have a good system. This is contained in the Hudson County Courthouse on Newark Avenue, Jersey City, NJ -- Surrogate Dept. Hope this helps. 3. Currently am looking for the article regarding my grandmother's election to the school board as the first female ever elected. I have tried the newspaper to no avail twice -- they just don't answer letters or telephone calls. I have tried the library and they answered but cannot help -- they told me they are not archived past 1964. Julia Andes (nee Carolan) was born in Ireland (place unknown) about 1875 and moved to the US in 1892, becoming a nanny in NYC. By 1898 she was married; by 1906 she was living at 287 Grace St., Secaucus, with 4 of her 6 children and husband. She had 2 other children born in NJ by 1911. Sometime in the 30s, 40s or maybe even as late as the 50s (but I don't think so) she ran for the school board and was elected as the first female ever to serve. I am assuming this made the newspaper since it was such an historic event. I would be willing to pay someone (a genealogist) if they could do the research and get me a copy of the article that appeared in the paper. I currently have a call in the Board of Education to see if they can help me. Thanks in advance. Judy in NC

    3. Hi Everyone, This is interesting - and as I'm completely ignorant on the subject, I would like to know why are there no Catholic death records! I guess I never thought about it and just took it for granted that churches would keep such records. My husband is Catholic and there was a service for my mother-in-law at the church when she died. Wouldn't that be recorded somewhere? Regards, Karen
