    3. Hello. I am searching for ANY information on Frederick H. Rogers. He was born somewhere in NJ in 1876. He was in Brooklyn in 1900 and was a steamboat Captain. We just found my Ggrandmothers phone directory and she shows his address, circa 1930's as 386 Chestnut Street, Arlington, NJ. Any information regarding Frederick Rogers or where he lived would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Holly

    1. [NJHUDSON-L] Re: Changing a birth date
    2. I am having a problem with establishing a birth date for my gggrandfather (John Thomas Mellor) who lived in Jersey City Heights until shortly before his death in 1901. All the records here (death certificate, obituaries, tombstone) indicate he was born in England in 1820. However, records in England indicate that 1820 is the birth date of his father and that he was born in 1837. Was it common practice for someone coming to the US to change their date of birth to appear older, and for what purpose? Using 1837 instead of 1820 would mean he was 17 when my ggrandmother was born and 11 years younger than his wife - not impossible, of course, but.... Wendy Schmoyer

    1. Re: [NJHUDSON-L] Kearny - Harrison - East Newark: KENWORTHY Clan
    2. Hi Ken, Congratulations! Sounds like your research is moving forward. You and I were in contact a few years ago. I am researching Bell, Patton, Campen, Albert, MacDonald, Wolfe, Swiss and others in the NYC, Kearny, Arlington, and Newark areas. After reviewing your latest information, I'm convinced that our ancestors had to have known each other in the early 1900s. My G-Uncle, Philip Bell, was one of the founders of the Kearny Police Department and served as Chief of Police in later years. He died in 1939. His brother, Henry "Harry" Bell who died in 1941, also worked for the police department and was my maternal G-Grandfather. I have recently found all of my mother's first cousins in Henry's line. This has been a tremendous healing for my family. We're still working on trying to find anyone who has information regarding Philip and Henry's siblings: Ella, Margaret (married MacDonald), Everett & Ada, as well as any Campen relatives. My G-Grandmother, Mary Margaret Campen, died as a young mother at the age of 27. If you ever run across a researcher who ties in with any of my lines, could you drop me a line or send them my way? My family would be extremely appreciative. Thanks, Nicci At 7:50 PM 7/1/00, Ken Forbes wrote: > I've made considerable progress on my KENWORTHY genealogy.
