    1. [NJHUDSON-L] Funeral Homes in Bayonne
    2. Joan Vreeland Studer
    3. To all who were interested in the funeral homes in Bayonne: I finally got an answer from Fryczynski Funeral Home, who inherited the "records" from Baumuller funeral home. Unfortunately, he said the "records" (whatever he meant) were long gone but he has deeds. Again, he explained that the names on the deeds didn't necessary mean that was who was buried there. All the deed states is who purchased the plot or plots. He (the funeral director) discouraged me from even pushing further as he said they're all put away and the deeds couldn't tell me anything anyway. He was very polite but very plain in telling me he had no intention of going down a basement or where ever and search out my family's deeds. Sorry, I tried. I was rather disappointed. He told me I would have more luck in contacting the cemeteries in the area and asking them for family members.... they have books they can look up in. Obviously he never tried to do that..... If anyone finds another avenue we can explore, please share. And while I'm at it, I'm researching the Bayonne Vreelands and the Jersey City Pateys. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Joan

    1. [NJHUDSON-L] Bartuska family
    2. Hello List, I am new to posting here, but found out some information that may be a lead into more of our family tree. My husband's great grandfather was William Bartuska. He is listed on the Census for 1920 B632 vol 53 e.d. 48 sheet 16 line 19 William Bartuska , white male, 38, Lithuanian, citizenship 1910 AL Hudson County East Newark, John Street, house 326 other members of family: Bartuska, Anna age 10 birthplace England Bartuska, Julia age 7 born New Jersey Apparently, our family was boarding with a Charles Shapalas. I believe that Julia Bartuska, their mother died the year before (1919) 3 days after a gallbladder operation??? Don't know what hospital or where she is buried. Trying to find out more on the family. Julia the 7 year old daughter listed passed away years ago and Anna is still alive, but does not have much information on her family. Wondering what really happened to Julia in 1919 and where she is buried etc. Wondering if anyone knew of the Bartuska or Stepanovich name in the area. William apparently had one or two brothers but don't know if they came to the US for sure. Maybe someone knew Charles Shapalas as well? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance. 3. I am not researching Ryans but my Jersey City grandfather (Joseph L. Boland who lived from 1881 to 1961 and who was a milk dealer, tugboat owner, and small time real estate agent after the Crash) had a sister Bessie who married a Ryan and had lots of Ryan children: Helen (married to Frank Schmidt?), Muriel, Rita, Bettie (who maybe married a Hunter), and Georgie. At one point Bessie Boland Ryan and her family (maybe 1930s) lived at 202 3rd Street, Jersey City. Dory

    3. Hi Carolyn: Is it possible he died later than the years you had searched? Your mother's memory might be a little off. Once when I requested a death record from Trenton and got negative results, someone wrote on my request which was returned to me "this death occurred in pennsylvania". I don't know how they knew that but it certainly was helpful. Did he go to a certain church? Maybe they would have records of a funeral and burial. Have you traced each of his descendents to his/her burial location to make sure he isn't with one of them? Good Luck-this is a puzzle! chris smith Carolyn_Greene@hgsi.com wrote: > I need help finding the death record and/or burial place for my > grandfather, John Joseph Rooney. Fryczynski Funeral Home is the last one to get their records. The building as long since been torn down. I too, am trying to find records - mine for the Vreelands. Mrs. Fryczynski is asking her husband if he knows where the records went or if they are still available. I talked to her on the phone and then called again last week, when I hadn't heard from her. Still nothing. If I locate the records, I'll post where to find them, to this list as I know others would like to see them. Joan Vreeland Studer

    2. Hi Susan, I am researching a Vera Isabel "Pat" (LANNING) BELL, born 1897 Detroit, MI and died 1894 Seffner, FL. Her last marriage was to David BELL of Hudson Co, NJ. When David died in 1980, her name on his death certificate was Vera "Pat" LANNING. On her SS Application, her parents are listed as Louis MILLER and Belle CREIGHTON. Just wondering if you've ever run across Vera in your research... ??? 2. I need help finding the death record and/or burial place for my grandfather, John Joseph Rooney. According to my mother he died in 1948 in Jersey City. For the past 7 years I have tried to locate this event in several ways: - Writing the Dept of Health and Senior Services in Trenton using the years 1946-1949 looking both in Hudson and Union Co. - Searching the Social Security Death Index. - Writing the Hudson Co. Surrogate Court for probate records. - Writing and calling the cemeteries where his family are buried. - Obtaining military records. He was born in 1894 in Jersey City and as far as I can tell he lived all of his life there. 1. [NJHUDSON-L] Joseph Johnson and family
    2. William Meier
    3. I'm sending this in hopes someone might recognize this man(he is my great grandfather) or some of his family. Joseph Bedell Johnson b. Jan 27, 1879 I obtained his date of birth from the WWI Draft registration cards (NARA located in NYC) dated Sept. 12, 1918. His address listed at that time was 11 Maple Ave, SI, New York. He is listed occupation as Quartermaster for Public Service-Port Richmond and Bergen Pt. Ferry. He listed his nearest kin as Mrs. Margaret Johnson 160A W 46st Bayonne, NJ. I obtain his parents name as Stephen Johnson and Margaret Payne from his marriage certificate. In the 1880 census in Richmond Co. he is listed under Stephen Johnson, his father, with sibilings Ella 18, Minni(?) Haines 17(step daughter), Emma 16, Nettie 10, Stephen 4. In 1923 he makes a court statement that he is a resident of Bayonne, NJ. and has been since 1902(this of course in conflict with his draft registration card, howevr I'm sure it the same person as in every case he used his middle name "Bedell". I would be interested if any one has any information on him or his family. I'm assuming that he is either a Bayonne or Port Richmond resident for most of his life. I would be very interested to find other details such as any obits, or death date, or other researcher of this same family. Regards Bill
