    1. [NJHUDSON-L] 1880 Census
    2. Mary Hobein
    3. I need to ask this question again with more information. Not all of the people who were enumerated on the 1880 Federal Census are listed on the Soundex. I believe that only families with children under a certain age were listed on the Soundex. The person I seek on that census was about 65 years old in 1880 and all of his children were adults. An unmarried daughter aged 34 may have lived with him. In any case, the person I am seeking was not listed on Soundex - that is the first place I looked. I found him on the census of 1850, 1860, and 1870 in the 4th Ward of Jersey City. His obituary in 1884 indicates that he lived in Jersey City continuously for 50 years. It also stated that he had been an alderman 1854-1856 in the "old" 4th Ward. This implies that the ward boundaries may have changed and that his address may not have been in that ward any longer. His address was 273 Second Street, Jersey City. Does anyone know what enumeration district that would be in for the 1880 census? 3. According to an old map I have, second street is in 'District 2'. Rather than him moving, possibly they changed from the Ward system to Districts, hence 'Old 4th Ward'. You might also try the 1885 New Jersey State Census and also Jersey City Directories. 1. [NJHUDSON-L] New Jersey Masons
    2. Mary Paynton - Spaced.org
    3. Hi listers, I am in the process of writing to the Grand Lodge of New Jersey Free and Accepted Masons to see if they have any information about the membership of my GG Grandfather William Paynton, as per their website (http://njfreemasonry.org/famtree.htm). They do request a guess as to which Lodge he might have been a member in, and since I am not from New Jersey and only vaguely aware of the Masons as a whole, I thought I would ask you all what you thought. William was a resident of both Salterville, now Bayonne, and Jersey City. The time period would be between 1830 and 1860. Any other general comments regarding the Masons and if you had any luck getting genealogical info from them? Thanks! 2. Scott dePass
    3. Hi there! I am presently working on my ZIEGLER family tree. I am trying to find more information about my g-g-grandparents Louis and Mary ZIEGLER (neƩ LLOYD). They both died in 1895 (age 42 & 41 respectively). They left behind several young children : Katherine, Louisa, Ellen, Lillian, Marry, Georginia, Louis and Edna. From what I understand all the children made it to adulthood, but Edna died as a young adult. No date yet for her. Ellen, my g-grandmother married in 1907 to Edward DEPASS. Lillian married a Henry M. NISSEL. Mary married George CROSBY. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? I'd love to hear from you. Take care. Scott dePass Hamilton, Ontario CANADA sdepass@attcanada.ca
