I am looking for McQuaid/ McQuade family related to Bishop Bernard J. McQuaid of Rochester and trying to reconstuct more of his family history. Bernard J. McQuaid ( b: circa 1800 Ireland;d: May 2, 1832 Paulus Hook NJ) He was employed by George and Phenice Dummel ( New Jersey Glass Factory). He died May 2, 1832 in Paulus Hook, New Jersey and is buried in NYC at 11th Street Cemetery (now relocated). The bishop's mother, Mary McQuade (nee McGuire) died at the age of 33 ( June 15, 1827 - Mary McQuade died at Paulus Hook, NJ). She is buried at St. Patrick's Cemetery, NYC. Bernard McQuaid Sr. remarried and he had another son Patrick McQuade who died at the age of three months, March 27, 1829. The bishop had in his possession a family bible of Robert and Catherine McQuaid. No relationship written in the book. But there are two dates of deaths for these individuals that the bishop hand wrote. Robert, Sept. 15, 1841 and Catherine, Dec. 5, 1845. I wonder where they died and how they are related - but must be close kin for him too have their bible in their possession. Now where to go to continue my search? any suggestions?
Hello Listers: I was wondering if anyone out there would have access to a 1905 Jersey City Directory. That would be willing to do a lookup for me. Patrick FAGAN on Dwight street. Thanks, Dudley Pritchard Pasco County, FL

Hi, I would like the E Mail or home address of T. PIKE who is listed in the Jersey City Message Board at http://24.11.66.37/jcboard/index.html. I am researching my family history and the PIKE name is somehow connected with my WALLACE family. I have two names GRACE and TED and know that the PIKES resided on DUNCAN AVENUE Jersey City during 1917-1918. Ted was in the U.S. ARMY. He fought and was wounded in France during World War 1. I hope the T. PIKE is the TED that I am searching for. Thank you for any and all help that you can give me. George T. Wallace GWal398146@aol.com

I just visited the Museum. It is located on Bloomfield, a couple of houses down from 2nd. The museum is normally closed and you have to call the FD and they will send someone to let you in. They have one engine and some other old equipment there. They have many pictures of local fires and newpaper clippings. There are some pictures of past firemen as they received awards and promotions. There are also a collection of the daily logs. The ones I saw were around the 1850's. If you are looking for a particular person, it is a hit and miss. I was lucky to find my g-uncle listed in the newspaper as being appointed and then later making Captain. His name was Herbert F. Cloud and the time frame was 1940 to at least 1967. Another avenue to investigate is the Uniform Fire Officers Association, a step I still need to take. "Elizabeth A.Forsyth" wrote: > There's a Hoboken Fire Dept. museum in Hoboken (naturally). Hi Karen, The best book about the early history of Bayonne (to 1940) is "Bayonne, Old and New", by Gladys Mellor Sinclair, 1940. The Bayonne libray found a couple of boxes of these a few years back and was selling them for $10. If you're interested in books with alot of pictures, the best are the two in the Images of America series. The are "Bayonne" and "Bayonne Passages" by Kathleen M. Middleton. You can order these from a bookstore. Regards.
