I have hit a real big brick Wall and can not seem to get past it. I can not find my ggramother and ggrandfather. They are from Dutchess county ny, and I can not get any information there. They last appeared in the 1920 Census living in Bayonne New Jersey age 52 and 62. thier birth is Jan 1858 and Apr 1868. I have had a few people look for information and i tried a few on line services, but they are coming up with the wrong people. Johnson, Hattie, and Killmer, Mervin. I can not seem to find out when they died. nothing, empty. all i have is the 1920 census that gives Hattie Johnson born Jan 1868 and Mervin Killmer, Born April 1858. They appear with thier son Ward Killmer, in 1920 (my grandfather). Can anyone help, or give me some more suggestion. I have been through all of NY, and all of NJ. and I know they didnt move, I am so sure of this. I have been trying to find infomation on them for about a year now. Hello: would anybody be able to tell me what ward Communipaw Ave. Would have been in for the 1895 State Census?? Thanks, Dudley Pritchard
The last time I looked into New Jersey marriage indices I was told by a volunteer at the LDS Family History Center that there is an index but that you must go to Trenton to look at it. The State of New Jersey had refused to allow the Mormons to film it. However, I was also told that the state was reconsidering its position since making the indices available through LDS Family History Centers would reduce the amount of time state workers spend on genealogy related requests. Check with your local Family History Center.
I too would like to know if there are CD's that have marriages for the 1913-1925 time frame. I am looking for a marriage between Marie Schwing who arrived from Germany and lived in West Hoboken and Frank E. Buckley. TIA, Gloria M. Hello list, thought I would post something I was wondering about before getting back to my lookups. Are there searchable records or a CD that lists marriages in NJ after 1920? Looking for Anna Bartuska to Francis Ciszeski. She was born 1910, so I figure the soonest marriage would be 1925. I am also wondering if the records would show if Francis Ciszeski married again before his death in 1990. I would think he would have after he and Anna divorced, but one never knows. I was interested in the JC Cemetery posting for I have had bad luck with this cemetery. When I went last October (1999) to visit, there was noone in charge and no records and no information. The cemetery was in horrible condition with broken stones, fallen trees (on top of stones), grass above my waist. There was a kind older man named Jimmy (aged 87, I think) on the site who was trying to make sense of the place because his parents were buried there. He tried very hard to be helpful but the task there is almost overwhelming. I've written twice since to no avail (once to Jimmy's neice and once to an address someone posted several months ago) and am fascinated that there is actually someone named Flora who has records? Can you tell me how to find her? My grandmother Lulu Grant Harrison Boland along with her parents Harriet Freligh Harrison and John S. Harrison -- plus others -- are all in there somewhere. I'm willing to search (again) for headstones although I think they've been destroyed or ruined but I'd really like to see the indexes. There was a plat map (without indexes) in the little abandoned gate house of Harsimus Cemetery? Is that the same cemetery as the Jersey City Cemetery? Thanks for whatever information you can give me about Flora. Hi List, I spent some time at the JC Cemetery, 435 Newark Ave. on Thurs. afternoon. If your looking for Rels. and you think they are possibly there, it's worth a visit. The lady I spoke to ,Flora, is very helpful, and found 4 possible names from the 1880s-1930s indexes, and then went to the full volumes and gave me all of the information on each individual. The Cemetery is about the size of a Little League Baseball field, but has thousands of burials there. Problem is there is no map of the cemetery there, and Flora has no idea of where the graves might be. Plus the owners have refused the LDS people to record the information there. If you do find a written record of a family member, all you can do is wave at the sea of Headstones and say hi. Arnold Roepken

My grandmother, Stanislawa BLASEVIC is buried in Fairview cemetery. She died on 2 November 1918. Since I don't know _where_ she died how would I go about getting a copy of her death certificate? Jack BecquƩ Elk Grove Village, Illinois U.S.A. jabjr@compuserve.com
Absolutely incredible -- it makes one wonder how such a thing can happen -- you mean to say township officials were not aware that it was a cemetery? I would think that title to the land would have had some information, unless it was a family site and then subdivided or something. And why were the stones moved in the first place? My brother has a farm in upstate NY and he had a stone walkway to his house where some of the stones came loose and when turned over -- were seen to be gravestones. When and how this happened to become the walkway is unknown. The barn is from the late 1700's and there even was a dirt floor in parts of the house when he bought it. Maybe it was a means of recycling? In Europe graves are recycled every 25 years -- I don't know what happens to the burial bodies (in some cases I've heard of caves or buildings - where the bones are removed to) -- but this is due to scarcity of land. The stones are removed and family contacted to pick up if they want. In some cases, the stones are mounted in church yards, but I would think these are for patrons of the church. The Superintendent's name looks like it was Edward Dowd (it was handwritten, so I am not certain on the last name as it was in script). He replied within a month's time this past spring. The address is: Grove Reformed Church 1132 46th Street Kennedy Boulevard and 46th Street North Bergen, New Jersey 07047 The information he gave me was the names of everyone buried in the same plot (15 people) as my great grandfather and their dates of burial. It broke through a few brick walls I had since I could then send for other information from the state. I hope this helps in your search. I wanted to add that they really helped me out as well. I knew at least my great grandfather was buried there, but I was thrilled to find out that I had several generations before that buried there as well. Dear Peggy, Somehow with switching from AOL to bellatlantic I lost your e-mail address. Anyhow, I finally got a letter from Hudson Co. They checked for naturalization papers for Bridget/Bertha Bell from 1890 to 1924. Couldn't find anything. I originally thought the census read 1929, but that doesn't make sense because it was the 1920 census. Writing was poor so maybe it was 1909. Anyhow, no luck. Hope you see this. Claire in Howell, NJ
My Dammann gr-grandfather continues to be elusive. Looking at the list of cemeteries in Hudson County, I the Grove Reformed Church Cemetery. Does anyone know what church denomination that might have been? Marion Markham
