Last June I faxed, with credit card number a request for a marriage license on the proper form from the Web site. I re-faxed, questioning the delay about a month ago., and have heard nothing from either fax. Is this normal? Jane in California
Question for the listers: I have the early Patey family that I can't seem to located dates for. I went through the census and found their addresses in Jersey City NJ where they lived. However, many of them were born in NY. The question is - why? and where? For instance, Achille and Mary J. Patey lived on Beacon Street, JC and raised all their children there. However, it states that the children were born - 1868, 1874 in NY. Perhaps there was no hospital near by in that time period? Where would I go to try to find birth certificates? I think Manhattan is the only area listed at that time. Any comments? Joan

****ATTENTION!!!**** You may have received an E-mail from me speaking about photos -- something like I'm sending you photos that I finally got scanned. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE ATTACHMENT. IT WAS NOT FROM ME! IT CONTAINS A TROJAN VIRUS! If you got this trojan e-mail, it's becaused it copied my address book and sent people it's replicated selves. According to McAffee Virus Scan, this is a "password stealer" for AOL e-mail, and if you download the fake e-mail, you will have these 3 immediately apparent problems: 1) if you use AOL, suddenly you are asked for your password twice. (If you had no password, it will tell you you typed it in incorrectly, and ask for you to "retype" it.) 2) If you use AOL, after you log on, there is all this busywork by your computer (at the service of the trojan worm, I presume) and it takes awhile before your mouse is responsive. When I waited long enough, it eventually worked. 3) When you try to shut down, the computer just freezes. I assume that by now the virus has e-mailed everyone on my address book, and sent them the dastardly virus. I updated my virus software, and located the virus: there were 4 instances of the "APStrojan.gen18b" virus. They couldn't be "cleaned", but only 2 of them could be deleted... I needed to search the McAfee.com website to locate the instructions to delete the mine.exe virus. I'm really sorry if any of you were messed up -- I just spent 2 hours digging the d... worm out. Good luck to you all, and warn your friends!
I didn't know Margaret Hague was closed, I have been gone from Jersey City for 40 years. Thanks for the tip. I have a copy of the Centennial Book (1872-1972) for the Walnut, IL area. It contains a history of the town, high school, churches, agriculture, businesses, many family histories, and a list of servicemen from all wars, starting with the War of 1812, buried in the Walnut Cemetery. The book contains many individual and other photographs. There is no index, however, I am willing to do lookups, time permitting, for anyone interested. Sam Hadley
I have the 1973 and 1974 Yearbooks for the Walnut Community Consolidated Grade School with photographs of teachers and students. Will do lookups for anyone interested. Sam Hadley
We are totally "stumped" ... has anyone ever seen the name BRUCCIALORI (spelling could be off) but we have a Joseph BRUCCIALORI who is married to our Rebekah RAWLINS (daughter of Elizabeth Terry and Dan Rawlins). (Note: Elizabeth Terry widowed and emigrated to the US with Robert PROCTOR a constable from Hull England) My mother seems to recall a Flower Pep and Holly Berry factory in the apartment building near 12th Street and Palisade Ave where the BOVE lived owned by Joseph BRUCCIALORI in 1942 when Mom worked for Joseph. Joseph and Rebekah had a daughter but we have nothing further. Regards from southern CA. Charlene email <mihnbu@aol.com>

Someone on this list helpfully pointed out to me that Hoboken was where many Germans from Brenen settled. So, I'm now asking if anyone who has access to the Hoboken City Directory for 1856 could do a look-up for either a John Dammann or a Christian Dammann. (Someone else pointed out that Germans had 'legal' names and familiar names.) Marion
My gr-grandfather, John Dammann, was sworn in as a citizen in No. Bergen in January, 1856. Since he applied in NY in 1848 and my grandfather was born in NY in 1852, I assume he must have moved to NJ between '52 & '56. I understand that most of the Germans lived in Weehawken in those days. Does anyone have access to city directories for Weehawken and No. Bergen for any of those years? An address would give me a starting point for checking the 1850 census. Thanks in advance, Marion Markham in Illinois

I'm investigating a similar situation, ggrandparents lived in Jersey City , but there is no record that they died or were buried in New Jersey. They were originally from New York, so I am now investigating NYC.
