Thanks for the encouragement from some of you. I have started to go systematically through West Hoboken. Here is a list of the streets contained in enumeration district #320 with house numbers. Not sure about the spelling of ?Fester, it could be Jester. Syms St. is also slightly questionable. Maybe someone with better local knowledge could tell me. Hi, Thanks for the encouragment. I have been scanning through some of the districts. ancestry.com is a little slow though :-( My geography of the area is very bad. You wouldn't happen to know where the streets are approximately in relation to the town would you ? or know where a 1920's map may be ? Hello all, I am about to start checking the 1920 census for some lost USHER family. The last known addresses were in 1900, 315 Dodd Street, West Hoboken, Hudson Co. (Walter Scott USHER) 728 Sip Street, West Hoboken, Hudson Co. (Thomas Benjamin USHER) 419 Humbold Street, Union, Hudson Co. (James USHER) Does anyone know, or know of a way that I can find out in which enumeration districts these streets were in the 1920 census ? For anyone on the list that could help. I am wondering where I should write to find out if there is a record of my grandfather's divorce. This would have taken place sometime between 1896 & 1904 in Hudson Co. NJ. Can anyone help? Thanks. Lisa M. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Hi All, I don't know if this is the place to do this ..but it's worth a try. My grandfather James Lynch married a Grace Montgomery in the 1940's. He was a stevedor who died on the docks shortly after they were married. Grace was a librarian in Jersey City (I have heard). If anyone recognizes these names I would really appreciate any info possible. Grace was either pregnant or had just given birth to a son(My Half-Uncle). My aunts would love to meet this brother. Thanks ahead of time . Happy Holidays, Kelly

(Its runs through Dec. 21st.) they are allowing free access of all their databases. If you click on the Census database, you can find the enum. numbers for all the streets in Jersey city. they list the streets for you in each district. Very helpful. I found my ancestors number there. He lived on Harrison Ave. Ancestry.com also has the Jersey City directories. "Soho" hospital was Essex County Communicable Disease Hospital in the 1950s. After the discovery of vaccine for polio, it was converted to and remains a nursing home in Belleville, NJ. Hope this helps. (I spent 4 weeks there as a student nurse-RN-caring for mostly polio and TB patients, although there were some kids with Whopping cough, too. Thank God we don't have to deal with the iron lungs anymore!) The new " Passaic County Historical Society Web Site"- By Annita Zalenski is now on line.Go to http://www.geocities.com/pchslc/
It started off being Bergen County with Bayonne. What year did it change over to being Hudson? I thought it was later than 1896. Am I wrong? Hello, Could anyone tell me the enumeration district number for Colden Street in Jersey City, year 1920? Thank you and happy holidays Bonnie
Hello, Can anyone tell me if Jersey City was indeed considered in Hudson County in 1896? Thank you for the reply. Joan Doyle
Could anyone tell me where someone in the 1860's-70's would have gone to Baptist Church services? My ancestors started out at the Grove Reformed Church N. Bergen, NJ, actually one was one of the original elders. However his daughter and son-in-law had some problems with the church/congregation and so began going to a Baptist Church in the area. This would have been somewhere between N.Bergen and Union Hill, NJ. I would like to find their church records. Thanks - Lisa __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Hello Claire, Been reading your help for Lisa and am wondering if you are the "same Claire" that was helping find my father about 9 months ago. His name was Frank Keough. You have been shedding some light on the boundaries of West New York, Weehawken, Union City, Jersey City and North Bergen. I used to sell newspapers throughout theses areas. Transfer Station was the hub of my route. From there I traveled east on 7th St Union City to Bergenline Ave, then north to 22nd st.then west to Summit Ave, next south to ?? then west to the Hudson Blvd, then back to the Transfer Station. As best as I remember all were in Hudson County except the west side of Hudson Blvd was in Bergen County. Can you authenticate this for me? By the way - I never did find anything on my father Frank Keough.

I do not know if everyone knows that there is a new list or rather many new lists offering the potential for actual census lookups. There is a lookup list for each state of the union. New Jersey's is NJ-Census-Lookup-L@rootsweb.com to subscribe either click on the link below or send a message to NJ-Census-Lookup-L-request@rootsweb.com mailto:nj-census-Lookup-L-request@rootsweb.com in the message portion put one word: subscribe There are certain rules for the list and I am paraphrasing (I do not own the NJ list) so if the listowner of the NJ Census lookup list would like to correct my attempts at the rules, please feel free to do so. 1. in the subject put the census year/county/surname 1. if possible, try to to find out the page number from the Census index by going to Ancestry or on the CD's. (ancestry is running a free trial right now) To sign up for the free trial go to The information you would find there would be, for example: James Gardner, Bergen Co, NJ; page 076; Bergen Twp. Federal Population Schedule, NJ 1830 from the Federal Census index for 1840 it would be this: James Gardner, Hudson Co, NJ; page 203; Bergen Twp. Federal Population Schedule, NJ 1840 2. Ask for only one census year at a time and for one or two people at a time (please do not ask for "all" the Browns or Smiths) 3. remember that there is no one assigned to do lookups; if someone has access to census records or indexes, they will look it up for you provided they have the time. 4. All queries on census requests and replies should go to the list and not be sent in private email. 5. If no one has access to that particular census, then you will receive no answer, so don't get upset or write curt notes to the list wondering why your lookup has not been done. There is absolutely no charge for this service and I have no stake in this; I just would like to pass along the information just, in case, some of you don't know about it. Please consider joining the list and offering lookups; even if it is just to check a county and year for a person to find if they are there and to give them the page from the index. -- Diane Ward Sives
Hello Lists, Just to let everyone know, I am changing from homepage.com (too many problems and they are about to stop homepages) to 50megs.com. So far, all is looking brighter than most Christmas Lights. However, I still am having problems with DFTCOM2 (family tree) working on the new site (same as the old though, won't load) and I have to correct my address with all the links I have. The links to other sites work fine though and the old photos and obits seem to be loading quicker. I will work on the tree over the holidays. I may have to go back to GED2WWW for the tree, but it is about an 86 page upload with our tree size. Also, the Patterson and Shelburne, Nova Scotia portions of the tree have grown and I am awaiting snail mail of records. I am very excited about that though! Our old address: http://patterson.family.homepage.com our new address: http://pattersonfamily.50megs.com or Patterson Family Page Happy Holidays to all and I hope to hear feedback and suggestions from all. Especially on my tree problem! Sincerely, Donna Patterson IttyBkShp@aol.com
