I am researching the family of William GLENFIELD (b. ca. 1835, prob. Ireland) and Janet ("Jinnet") BROWN (b. ca. 1835, prob. Scotland), who emmigrated from Manchester, Lancashire, England to Jersey City ca. 1866-1868. The family lived first on Germania Ave, and later at 94 Graham Street. Their known children were: Ellen (1857), Andrew (ca. 1861), James (ca. 1863), John (ca. 1865), Barbara A (1869), Alfred (1871), and Jinnet ("Jeanette") (ca. 1876). Ellen married George ELWOOD and Barbara married Albert Joseph LAX. Does anyone have any information about this family? Thanks, Nancy Elmwood Park

Also keep your backup disks in different places in case of fire ..... rotate diligently as you back-up .... put the most recent one with your car keys ..... in the morning, put it in the glove compartment and take the old one from the glove compartment into your office .... put the one in your office locked desk drawer in the pocket with your car keys so you'll take it home tonight for your next back-up. I did this for many years. It worked just fine. Then I retired. And the trouble is, I don't go out every day. But I can still rotate with my car .... and hopefully get that out in case of fire or flood in the house! ----- Original Message ----- From: "lucie bailey" <hondolu@texas.net> To: <NJHUDSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 17, 2001 6:27 AM Subject: [NJHUDSON-L] back up your back up > I'm sending this to the lists I subscribe to: > I damaged my file somehow(didn't realize it) and backed it up. The Church of LDS has microfilmed the records of many churches in the Archdiocese of Newark, which includes Hudson County. The microfilmed records are available through Family History Centers.
I'm sending this to the lists I subscribe to: I damaged my file somehow(didn't realize it) and backed it up. Actually several times. When I realized what had happened I called a tech for assistance. We tried but couldn't restore my file. I had to send my disks in for repair. Hopefully, they will be able to fix it( My file contained information from 1750 to 2001). Here is my advise. Don't use the same disks to back up your work alternate. I'm going to be rotating among 3 different disks. Meanwhile, my fingers and toes are crossed. Lucie
I have found that when I cannot get information from civil records, I locate the churches in the area that subjects may have attended and order the microfilms of the records if they are available from the LDS center. I have had good results in finding a baptisimal or death record that is relevant in most cases. To find if the records have been photographed, search familysearch.com for the county and state and see what pops up. Good hunting. St. Michaels grammer school and high school were located opposite each other on 15 street and New York Ave. They were taught by the Sisters of Charity whose mother house was located at Convent Station. St. Michaels church was not part of the school system It was located 18 & 19 streets between Summit Ave and West Streets. The priests were the Passionate order. After the church property was sold all records were moved to St. Josephs church on 15 and Central. You can get the records from them but make sure you tell them if the records were orginally held at St. Mikes
Hi list, I have hit a brickwall with vital for my great grandmother, great grandfather, and grandfather. I tried to find a birth certificate for Annie Currey 1841 Hudson Co. (or was it Bergen Co. then)...nothing. Looked for a certificate of marriage between Annie Currey and John C. Marin middle to late 1860's Hudson Co. or Bergen Co.,....nothing. I then looked for a birth certificate for my grandfather John C. Marin Jr. 1869 or 70 Hudson or Bergen Co.,....nothing. Lastly looked for a death certificate for Annie Currey Marin 1870 or 71 Hudson or Bergen Co.,.......Nothing!!! I just don't know what to do. I would look in newspapers for articles but I live out of state and I have found out there are not indexes for these years. Any suggestions from anyone out there? I would really appreciate the help!!!!! Lisa Marin __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! Mail. http://personal.mail.yahoo.com/
I strongly urge everyone NOT to participate in these chain letters. I have been in touch with a teacher from South Carolina whose class did this kind of project. Total disaster!!! Crashed computers, tied up phone lines at the school, more than 100,000 rsponses in a matter of days....PLEASE DON'T DO IT! Please check this site http://urbanlegends.miningco.com/science/urbanlegends/library/blhoax.htm before forwarding chain mail, forwarded letters, etc... Thanks! Hi Can anyone on the list spread any light on a group called "The Hoeggers Recreation Club" of Weehawken ? I have a photo of about 40 men standing in front of a building which I beleive was a foundry where the Club members worked. Any assistance will be appreciated. Vince TN
Are you near a Famil y History Center ?http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp (mormons microfilmed data from all over the world and have sites all over the world) they also have census records on microfilm . You mention Jame's sister -- did you find anything on her (you didn;t mention) was she buried in the plot purchased by Thomas? When did James parents arrive in the US? Were they married in Ireland or met here and married? Did you check NARA for immigration records? Was a funeral home used in those days? I wouldn't give up on the church because they didn't respond -- send another letter. What about churches near the cemetary or in West Hoboken? If Catholic -- St. Michael's Monastery in UC might be the logical prospect -- this was discussed recently -- no longer operative but someone recently indicated within the last 2 weeks -- the location of records -- also LDS Family history Center might have on microfilm -- search for West Hoboken. http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library/fhlc/supermainframeset.asp?display=localitydetails&subject=189103&subject_disp=New_Jersey,_Hudson,_Union_City&columns=*,180,0 (the total link did was too long so include the last part as a cut and paste) But this link lists resources for Union City -- church records & directories that are on microfilm. Rental of microfilm is 3.25 per roll using their viewer on site. Sometime libraries will obtain the reels as well. But look at their resources and note the microfilm # that you want. They also have a CD with all their reference material that you can purchase and browse through offline for around $10-15. I haven't used their material for NJ but did for foreign countries. Interested in the NOLAN surname from Hudson County, as I have a whole bunch of them. Patrick NOLAN moved to Jersey City in 1868 with a large family of NOLANs. Do we have a match? Maureen, Used the "Search the Web" in MSN. Input "Sisters of Christian Charity" and got LOTS of hits. I 'think' the town you want is Mendham. I should have gone to the site before replying earlier. I've been thinking about another order, whose Motherhouse is in NJ (North West, but I can't recall the name of the town) who were/are called the Sisters of Christian Charity. They had many foreign-born sisters who entered the order both in the US and abroad (coming here after they became sisters). They were more European than the Sisters of Charity from Convent Station, which were founded in the U.S. and seemed to be more Irish-American to me. Sisters of Christian Charity were founded in Germany and are also in Rome. Their foundress was named von Mallinckrodt. The initials after their name is S.C.C. Thanks to all who responded to my query regarding "North Arlington" Cemetery. Seeing that the family is Lutheran, I would think that they're buried in Kearny. Thanks again to all of you for your help - you guys always come through. Regards, Karen Isley Seiferth
