The only Catholic cemeteries in Hudson County are St. Peter's Cemetery and Holy Name Cemetery. Like Five Corners, both are in in Jersey City. St. Peter's records are at Holy Name Cemetery. I believe that the Mormons have microfilmed records from both. If you don't find your ancestors there, try Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, southern Bergen County. I am looking for a (Catholic?) Cemetery that might be close to "Five Corners". I know this location is formed by the intersection of Summit, Newark, and Hoboken Aves.....Hudson City ......can anyway advise me on possibilities and perhaps Catholic Churches in the area around 1900-1920? Dear List, I was at the Kearny Web Page <http://www.rootsweb.com/~njhudson/kearny/> today and was looking at the list of Kearny men that died during WW II, attempting to track down information on some of my relatives form Kearny. On the list was a Herbert A. Donegan. A relative of mine, who was a gunner during WW II and was killed in action, came from the Kearny area. In fact, my grandfather James Clark (1898-1972) and my uncle Henry Clark (1895-1962), I am told, were also born there. Herbert's father Bernard, in our family, was the step brother of the six Clark children born to my gg: Henry Clark (1865-1941) and his wife, Mary Dunnigan (1870-1933). They lived on a farm in Kearny, but later settled in Brooklyn, NY. I am hoping this is the same Herbert. Bernard, for an unknown reason, later used the Dunnigan name, but changed its spelling to Donegan. I am told that Bernard's wife was named Irene and they had two children named Herbert and Florence. I would appreciate any help or advice you fellow list members could provide, in helping me find out if this Herbert, is our Herbert and advise me on how to proceed in obtaining vital records for those family members, that lived in the Kearny area. If any one is able to tell me the number of the ED for Kearny or would search any censuses for me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Bob Clark
Evelyn Would you please see if your book Germany to America mentions my great grandparents: Christian Ficke b. April 19, 1867, Loystedt, Hannover orphan, came to US approximately 1873. Settled first in NYC, then in Essex County. Bertha Elisabeth Webbersen b. March 19, 1869 in Lehe, Hannover orphan, came to US around 1888 as a real guess They married December 13, 1889 in NY Thank you so much for your kindness Dee Ring
sorry if this is a repeated message, but I know one of these lists posted about this website a few months ago, and I would like some information. Is this a legitimate site? worthwhile? I had a "genealogy cousin" who asked me about this, and I told her I would inquire. I believe some listers had negative feedback to give to this site. Please email me privately if you don't want to clog the boards, but I would like to know whether this is a worthwhile site, or if I'm wasting my time even looking. Thanks. Marcelle
Here's the small print from FamilyDiscovery.com. The $60 fee gives you a search engine which you can find for free elsewhere. Marcelle, I have heard, second hand, that the owner of the site "borrows" or links to data from other websites. I don't know if this is true since I am not shelling out the $60 fee to find out. I do know that he has had a very lousy ebay feedback rating. I have never seen so many negative comments for anyone on ebay. Most of the comments pertain to exorbitant shipping/handling fees.
