I posted last night but somehow it didn't go up! I am wondering if St. Matthews Church in Jersey City (Sussex St.) is still there? If not, where might I find their records? Was this a Catholic church? thx Marcelle
I believe all RC churches in Hudson County plus family members living in NY or other NJ Counties ... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marcelle Aldredge" <solidgold@home.com> To: <NJHUDSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 22, 2001 7:07 PM Subject: [NJHUDSON-L] Holy Name Cemetery > If someone was buried in Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City, what is the > most likely church they would have attended? Sorry about that listers. I was researching Holy Family RC Church in Union City not St. Mary's that I reported in error, so I'm reposting what I found. FUCHS C. 1889 RJ 1891 LM 1890 JB 1895 C 1896 T. 1899 J 1902 A. 1905 JF 1908 AA 1908 (and on and on) Let me know of which you sould like more detail. FOX Did not find Fox surname BAUMAN, no Patricia , found JE Bauman around 1880 and then there are Baumanns baptized almost every year until the last entry I found in 1918 for I. Bauman, after that the name does not appear. BEVERIDGE: none found DENNEHY/CUFFE: none found at this church Next planned visit to family history center is Tuesday. I hope to finish baptisms and check marriages. Theresa ______________________________ Attachment: Forwarded Message __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Have I been taken off the list? I'm not getting back my inquiry since yesterday. Joan
Hi Listers, Can anyone tell me where St. Bridget's Church was located in Jersey City? Where could I send for info on someone baptised there in 1904? Is the church still standing? Joan
Thanks to all for your replies regarding Holy Name. Now, for all you smarties, is St. Matthews Church on Sussex St. still there? And is it also a Catholic church? Has anyone had any dealings with them. I need family records from this church. Thank you again great listers! Marcelle

thank you to everyone who responded so quickly. Makes my work easier! Marcelle
If someone was buried in Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City, what is the most likely church they would have attended? Or is this a "general" cemetery for many churches. Is it Catholic? thx Marcelle
Due to the snow I was only able to go through the baptisimal indexes this morning. FUCHS C. 1889 RJ 1891 LM 1890 JB 1895 C 1896 T. 1899 J 1902 A. 1905 JF 1908 AA 1908 (and on and on) Let me know of which you sould like more detail. I recently found in my local genealogy library The New Jersey Biographical Index. It lists sources for bios on NJ citizens. It is also available on cd from FTM. The best thing is that the books referenced are all at Rutgers University in their special collection. They will copy for a small amount the pages referenced in the index. I got the info on my brick wall and it is amazing how much information was on just one page. I had heard "my guy" was in this index, but had no idea where to find the books after I found the name and citation. Cindy Clark http://www.libraries.rutgers.edu/rulib/spcol/spcol.htm http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/january/190facd.html January sale is still on. FTM CD 190 > This Family Archive contains images of the pages from the New Jersey Biographical Index. Throughout the 1800s, with the development of canals, railroads and eventually roadways, New Jersey secured itself as a major transportation corridor between the Northeast and South. With the creation of the nation's first factory town, workers from throughout the East coast settled in New Jersey. It continues to be a strong industrial state with links to New York City, Philadelphia, and other key cities in the region. > > Originally published by the Genealogical Publishing Company, the New Jersey Biographical Index references nearly 2,000 volumes of 237 periodicals and sources. In all, it includes approximately 60,000 individuals and covers the entire state of New Jersey in the 1800s. The biographies indexed are valuable because of the strong connection between biography and family history. All of the biographies are based on information provided by the subjects or their immediate families and often, there is more than one sketch of the same individual. With the added convenience of an electronic index, this Family Archive CD now provides easier access to an excellent collection of New Jersey references.
Why is this type of information being posted to the mailing list over and over again? Belleville is in Essex county. Just across the River from Hudson County.
For the person looking for Pendergast in Hudson County. I lived next door to the Ed Pendergast family in 1940 to 1950 in Belleville, Essex county. Wife Ann, Daughter Carita & son Tom. Maybe this will help in some way. Dee
