Can anyone do a lookup at St. Pat's on Bramhall Ave. in Jersey City for a marriage record? I've received a copy of a marriage certificate which the priest sent me. This was a sort of stock certificate which didn't include information I was hoping for. I had asked for a photocopy of the actual register which usually includes parents' names and ages of the bride and groom. I am hoping that some Jersey City resident could stop by and do the lookup because getting the certificate took almost two months with two letters and three followup phone calls. HEre's the info: James Davey and Margaret Foley were married on July 14, 1895. Thanks in advance, Jeanne Foley Dwyer ===== Genealogy = disturbing the dead and irritating the living. Can anyone do a look up to see if there were any Amber or jewlery stores in Hoboken around 1880-90? I think a relative may have owned or ran one. Thanks. Robin _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Hi everyone, I'm new to the list and have some strange questions to ask. :) 1. My grandfather, Bernard LYNCH, owned a speakeasy in Hoboken in the 1920s. It was located on Washington Street, across from the police and fire departments. Would someone have a directory for this time period who would be willing to do a lookup under 'restaurant' or such? 2. Does anyone know if there are any surviving documents (police records, etc) on the speakeasies in the area in the 1920s? If so, do you think the archives would hold them or the libraries? 3. Does anyone know who was the mayor of Hoboken through the 1920s? He used to visit my grandfather at home in Brooklyn and we have a picture of the two of them together. However, no one can remember his name! Thank you so much for your time, Tracy

She married an Arthur (or Alfred) Dolce (sorry, not sure of spelling) and they had daughter Dorothy, born 1919. Dorothy married and had 4 children. If anyone knows these family names, and can share information, please contact me. thanks Marcelle
Is anyone interested in doing a look-up for me in the NY Times Archives on a mysterious death that occurred in Hoboken approximately November 23, 1896? Let me know if you are interested in making a few bucks. Thanks! I am trying to find the cemetery plot for my great grandmother, who was married to Hugo STUMPE, found on the Jersey City, NJ, 1900 census, living on Ocean Ave. Hugo STUMPE stated he immigrated from Germany in 1880 and married my grandmother, a widow, in 1887. He was a painter and also a watchman. My grandmother was a toddler at the time of marriage, and Hugo STUMPE and his wife, my great grandmother, Amelia Elizabeth KUHL STUMPE raised her. I have their announcement of marriage (1906) for my grandmother, stating "Mr and Mrs. Hugo STUMPE announce the marriage of their daughter, Elizabeth KUHL to George HANTKE......" My great grandmother, Amelia, was also known as Emilie or Emma STUMPE. Do you have a Hugo STUMPE or Amelia, Emma, or Emilie STUMPE in your lineage or family tree? Do you know of anyone by the name of STUMPE, or did you know of anyone who was related to, or knew, or was a STUMPE? In 1920 Hugo was found living on Highwood Ave, Tenafly, NJ with landlord, Philip Mildenberger. I believe they could have been a friends from Jersey City when they lived there. On the census (1920) Elizabeth STUMPE, my grandmother, was not there which makes me think she was deceased. On 1900 Jersey City census there was also a Herman STUMPE living on Ocean Ave. He was related to Hugo STUMPE, relationship uncertain. I am trying to tie him in with Hugo and Elizabeth. I very much want to find where my great grandparents, Hugo and Emilie / Emma / Amelia STUMPE are buried. Please email me with any information or leads that may help me. I am most grateful. Again, thanks. Susan Hantke-Ogden s1036503010@mindspring.com
