Helen Very sorry about your loss. If you want to donate the yearbook, check with the Jersey City Public Library, New Jersey Room. They have a large collection of Jersey City yearbooks and are always happy to add to the collection. I'm sure a Night School yearbook would fit into their collection if they don't have it already. Hi, I found Peter Lyons with wife Ellen in the 1900 in Paterson, Passaic. I'll send the image to your email address. I don't have access to JC directories except for what's on Ancestry.com, 1889-93, and although there are Charles Lyonses and there are Peter Lyonses, they don't appear to be working together. Anyway, I can't imagine the commute from Passaic for Peter, not in the late 1880s-early 1890s... Peter LYONS emigrated at age 16 from Ireland (town unknown) and was naturalized in Jersey City, Hudson County on 20 Oct 1868. In the Jersey City Directory ending May 1, 1867, he was listed as a laborer at Bay cor. Prospect. Also listed at that same address is Charles LYONS, junk dealer. Charles LYONS also was listed as his witness on his naturalization papers, so I am assuming that Charles was a relative of Peter's. Also, in the 1869 Jersey City directory, Charles LYONS, junk dealer, is listed at a home address of 342 S. 8th. I have not been able to find them on any census records as living together or what their relationship may be. I only find Peter LYONS on the 1880 census living in Paterson, Passaic County, with his wife, Ellen CHRISTIE LYONS and two of their children. TIA for any help you might be able to provide. Hi Marge There are not at 181 7th. However right below that at 185 they are. If you use ancestry.com that is the 3rd ward, district 94, image 7. If you don't have access I'll send you an image. You can search for these addresses by using the street directory in the JC city directory. It gives street numbers corresponding to intersections. Once you know between which street it falls you can the ward and district from boundaries used. I've just found a great way to search for a church or cemetery in the area that a anscestor live and I thought I would share it with the message boards. The program is Google Earth and it is a free download. You can search anywhere in the world for an address. In some areas you can zoom in and actually see the house or building that is located at the address. Set the layers to view church and cemetaries and it will show you where they are located. http://earth.google.com/ I've been playing with it for a couple of days now and it has really helped me see the areas where some of my anscestors lived. I am in no way affiliated with the company, Arlene

Ooops! In my excitement I hit the send button before finishing. Anyway, I just had to share. I know that one of James' sons (my great uncle), Thomas Duffy, was an Alderman and Freeholder, but I've never found details on that either, except for a brief mention in a who's who book from 1900. Hi Mike Actually that was ages and ages ago - more than 10 years, I'm sure... I think I have mentioned them to Cynthia a time or two - but don't know that she has tried to do anything about them. The clerk that was in charge of them back then was so protective of them that he didn't even want to admit that he had them - but since I knew about them, he didn't have much choice. Maybe he's retired now... I suppose I could take a swing by City Hall sometime when I'm back in Jersey City and see what they say now. Regards, Joan Joan M. It is my understanding that this should include a photograph of the front of every building in Jersey City at that time. The last time I heard this collection mentioned was some years back, however. At that time, it was held by a city department at City Hall. It was available only to someone who could prove that they were the current owner of the property. The collection was not made available to the public. I have never seen it, nor any photos from the collection. It would be a wonderful resource if it were ever to be made available through a library or archives. In the meantime, the Jersey City Public Library does have a photograph collection that includes a great many Jersey City buildings, both public and private. You can find more information on their collections on the Jersey Room page of their website: http://www.jclibrary.org/service/njroom.php (At least, I hope that's the right link... I can't get the page to load right now.) Regards, Joan Joan M. Homes would have been on Communipaw, Phillip, Clerk or Pine. I read once that New York City had made copies in the 1930's of all the houses for property tax reasons and they are available for purchase.
