Hi, My aunt had this poem among some old pictures and press clippings when I visited her in July 2001. She didn't know anything about it then, except that it was from St. Patrick's parish in Jersey City, and she passed away in 2002. Her father, Edward Charles Foley was certainly a bowler, and he's mentioned in the poem. As he died May 7, 1968, we can date it as earlier than that. I don't know exactly when it was published, so if you recognize it and can give me an indication of its date of publication, I would appreciate it very much. A Toast to St. Patrick's Club (Written in the style of a piece by Richards Vidmer entitled "Greetings," in the New York Herald Tribune) by Walter F. Farmer As one more year passes, let's fill a few glasses And drink to the members of St. Patrick's club, With stress on the bowlers, our tournament rollers, From highest score shooter to lowlliest sub. These friendships we treasure, and so it's a pleasure To hail a great spirit of brotherhood, and, With some rhyme and reason, to close out the season Proposing a toast to a swell little band. So here's to Frank Reilly andn sons, prized so highly, To all of our priests and Bill Doody, M.D., La Quinn, Eddie Dillon, Bus Clarke, Bill McMillon, Joe Cumings (ace club man), and "Fibber" McNee. to John (Tenor) marron and tall paul McCarron, Commissioner Gannon (Al Smith's local voice), Ted Begen, Bill Keller, and that grand old feller-- John Dolan, the Healey boys, and Harry Joyce. --- more to come on another post... There are also Unofficial World War I Service Records" available on microfilm at the NJ State Archives. You would need to check their website to see if that is a collection that they can search for you by mail. <http://www.state.nj.us/state/darm/links/archives.html> These are filed alphabetically for the whole state and so you do not need to know an exact address to locate the record on the microfilm. You might also want to see if they are available through your local FHC. Regards, Joan Joan M. For those that may remember my request from MetLife regarding information for deceased family members, I am sending you an update. Some of you suggested I write to the State of New York Insurance Department, which I did - but to no avail. Here is part of his representatives response: "First of all, there is no provision in the New York Insurance law that compels the company to furnish you with the information you seek. Furthermore, it is accepted by the courts in New York that no one without a vested interest in a policy of insurance (statutory coverage excepted) has a right to policy information." I wrote back and asked IF I did have a vested interest could I have access to the requested information? And..What documents do I need to show to indicate I have a vested interest? I am desperate for this info because after YEARS of research, this is the only lead I have yet to follow. Researching: HENRY HAPPEL, SR. POB: GERMANY HENRY HAPPEL, JR. DOB: 12.04.1874 (?) I found my Driscolls on the 1889/90 thru 1893 Jersey City, Directory. I don't remember if I found them or someone else did. Are they available on a website so I can look for other family members. I'm drawing a blank. Dolores
Several people on the list found Kate Ryan on the 1920 as a widow on Monmouth St.I would appreciate a lookup for her on the 1910 to see if she is a widow on it. I have not been able to learn the death of her husband Patrick. Because there are just too many Patick Ryans in the death records and he is not buried with her. I only know of one son John and he would be 27 in 1910. Thanks for any help. Dolores
I would appreciate a lookup for a Kate or Catherin Ryan on the 1920. I just received a death cert.for her son in 1918 at 365 Monmouth St. Her death cert in 1929 shows she was still living at the same address. Her husband was Patrick but he may be deceased by 1920. Thanks for any help. Dolores
