Hi Mike, I just remembered that I had an address for my grandparents somewhere and found that I noted it on my grandfather's record: in 1912 they were at 2082 Prospect Ave. (that was when my grandmother and mother/aunt came to the US (in Spring) -- I might have told you that my grandfather came in Fall 1911) Going back to the Morse site I was able to determine the reel that I should be looking at. for the city census of 1915 and the Ad/ED approximations. It seems Prospect Ave runs over 8 AD/ED, but I think the likely ones are those near Crotona Pk. -- so it comes down to 1 reel and 3 Ed. Could you give me any tips on efficiently searching these reels? Are they indexed by street number or surname or intersecting streets --- any index? Thanks for any advice Claire

Hello New Jersey: My family came from Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey. My G-G-Grandmother Elizabetha Henrietta Hertle was living in the house of Andreas/Andrew Seebach according to the 1861 Census. In 1866 she had a Son Henry born Nov. 1866, and on the 1871 Census, they were a family. Shortly after in 1871 Andrew Died. I understand that in Germany, they use the middle name as first name which she was listed as Henrietta Seeback/Seebach. I am trying to find a marriage record for them to no avail under these names. Henrietta came to the USA in 1853 with her Parents, under the Hertle name. They lived in NYC. Is there anyone out there that can help me with a search for Nationwide Marriage Records? I would appreciate any help with this. Thank you so very much for your time. Doreen --------------------------------- Get your own web address for just $1.99/1st yr. We'll help. Yahoo! Claire What were you searching births, deaths or marriages? Not all boroughs are indexed in some cases. Also marriages during some time period were recorded both by the department of health and the city clerk's office. I believe these were extracted only from the D.O.H. The site is completely free. You will find it as part of the stevemorse.org one step searches. The NY German genealogy site has some of the same databases. It also part of the Morse search. but I was hoping to find the original documents of the petition and declaration -- you don't get that with Nara do you? Hi Claire, ..Yes NARA has the original petitions and declarations. I was doing photocopying of the documents for some months, for the Italian group in the NY NARA .. ..I was also able to obtain my father's declaration with a photo of him at 38 yrs, with the help of the leader of the group .. Really nice people down there .. .. Not all have photos .. Good luck .. _http://www.italiangen.org_ (http://www.italiangen.org) MaryPat
Hi Mike -- got the marriages and also found marriage, death and naturalization for a friend's family. Thanks so much for the resource. Just had no luck finding my grandfather's naturalization. My grandmother was in Jersey City, but couldn't find him and thought that he may have started it in NY since they lived there first. I guess I have to go the Nara route, but I was hoping to find the original documents of the petition and declaration -- you don't get that with Nara do you? As far as Ancestry -- I do not have a membership and would appreciate a lookup in the 1915 and 1917 directories for the name of Weder (John) -- the family was in the Bronx (I think near Crotona Pk -- not far from the Bronx Zoo?) (sometime in the 20s they were in NJ esp by 1925) Thanks again for your help. Claire, Go to the following website - The Italian Genealogical Group - and follow the link to their FREE New York City indices / databases: http://www.italiangen.org They have incredible information! If you find the certificate number, you can order the record directly (online) from the NYC Municipal Archives at Chambers Street in Lower Manhattan. http://www.nyc.gov/html/records/html/vitalrecords/marriage.shtml The certificate only costs $10 plus postage if you provide the certificate number. The folks who work there are wonderful, and you will have your document in about two weeks time. Additionally, if your ancestors had a presence in NYC you may be able to glean some information from the online PROQUEST NY Times Newspaper. If you don't have access, let me know and I'll do a search for you. Good luck, Beverly G. I do NOT want to receive njhudson as "files and docuements" attached to email. I want to receive NJHUDSON in digest form with several queries in the same email -- IF you cannot arrange for this, cancel --- I hate the new Rootsweb system. [email protected]
You might try www.stevemorse.org. for marriages in NYC 1908-1936. He has many good links to databases. Ancestry.com has a collection 1915, 1917 and 1925 of NYC directories. I'll do a look up if you don't have access.
