    3. Hello Everyone - Sorry for the delay, holidays and all! As always, feel free to pass this along and post any questions or further information directly to the list. The following is from a book, I have no idea what the book is, aside from the fact that it's not from "Fenwick's Colony". I have that book and these pages are not from that. Basically, Isabelle (compiler from last post) sent several things to my stepfather in Nov. 1999 - he wrote her back in Dec. 1999 asking what book the following information was from, if she ever got back to him, I don't know, I forgot to ask her when I spoke to her and he (my stepfather) passed away in March of 1992. As noted in the subject, this is the last of the CARLL family pages I brought back, tomorrow will begin the MASKELL family. Chapter Nine THE CARLL FAMILY Rachel Carll married Edmund SHAW #12. Her father was John Carll of Long Island. Little is known of the early Carll family in America except that they were a very early East Hampton, Long Island family who migrated along with many of their neighbors to Southern New Jersey in the very late 1600's. The earliest mention of the family on Long Island is in 1668 when several parcels of land were purchased. The Carll family was closely associated on Long Island and later in southern New Jersey with other families, such as the SHAWS, GARLICKS, FOSTERS, and FITHIANS. Most of these other families are in the Long Island records a number of years prior to the Carll family, so there may be no previous connection between the families. Although the Long Island Carll family is of unknown origin, the family name was quite common in Maine in the late 1600's. It is thought the name is of Scandanavian origin, although it certainly could be a German derivation. References have noted that part of the Carll faimly in the Lower Alloways Creek, NJ, area were Quakers, and that another family by the Carll name immigrated directly to southern New Jersey in the early 1700's. Suffolk County, Long Island, court records record the death of family progenitor John Carll. His second wife, Rememberance GARLICK, the widow of the SHAW family #3 Richard SHAW, must have petitioned the courts to obtain the rights to her husbands estate. The court record reads as follows: "By the Honarable Coll. William SMITH Judge of their Matys Prerogative Court within ye County of Suffolk on Long Island in ye Providence of New York in America -- To all of whom these presents shall come Greeting Know yee that Whereas John Caryll late of Easthampton husbandman departed this life the first day of Octb.
