Suzanne, I was very excited when I saw your post about the sloop "Friendship," that is until I checked the date. I have an ancestor, Arthur POWELL who appears in Gloucester County in the 1690s and in Flushing Long Island, NY in 1698, then back to Gloucester County. I don't know where he was before that. But, I have found an Arthur POWELL on the ship "Friendship," leaving Barbados 9 Aug 1679 - bound for London. It is my speculation that he did not go all the way to London, but got off at one of the American ports. I was hoping that your receipt would place the "Friendship" in Gloucester County, but alas the time is too late. Thanks for sharing, I hope you will keep the list posted as you learn more.
