    1. [NJGLOUCE] Woodbury area-STORMS family 1868-1930
    2. Gail Steckel, NET
    3. Hello, all - I am new to this list. I am researching JOHN WESELY STORMS, born 1868 in NJ; married MARY EMMA ALLEN, born 1873 in NJ. >From census info, I know that John & Mary and family lived in Woodbury from at least 1900 thru 1930 (although Mary died before 1920). Their children were Oscar (b. 1891, d. around 1952), George (b. 1893), Edna (b. 1895), Viola (b. 1899), John W. (b. 1899), Edgar P. (b. 1904, died in OH), and Ernest (b. 1914, d. 1958). Some of them are buried in a cemetery on Main St. in Glassboro. Through the Gloucester Co. Hist. Society I found a reference to a marriage record (I.D. #929, date 3/13/1889) but cannot access it since I am not a member. Might anyone be a member that could access this record for me? Also, if anyone has any knowledge of or connection to this family, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks! Gail

    1. [NJGLOUCE] 1920's-1930's Yearbook Lookup Request COURANT
    2. Vincent E. Summers
    3. Hi... I am looking at the postcard that told me someone knows my aunt and uncle! Dear Vincent, Yes we know Bessie COurant. We received your letter the day before we left on this Florida vacation. We will write when we get home. Sally & Glen Courant Sigh! They never, ever did, and I have never found them in any online phonebook. I seem to recall that I found them initially by someone answering my request for school yearbook lookups for the surname COURANT from 1920's to 1930's. Unfortunately, the individual who helped me replied to me personally, as there is no such answer appearing in any of the relevant Rootsweb archives. Does anyone recall doing this lookup before for me, or can someone do any lookups in Catholic Schools Yearbooks? I really, really want to find Sally! Thanks, Vince Summers

    1. [NJGLOUCE] NJ Vital Stats
    2. You'll like this, folks. I sent for the death certificates of my maternal great-grandparents, William Stewart (d. 5/7/1945) and Margaret Dunbar (Maggie) Stewart who died in late January 1900. They died in Westville. NJ. The requests came back from Trenton stating that I had to have the names of THEIR parents in order to get those certs. I sent the requests right back to Trenton with a letter telling them: "I do not HAVE that information. One of the reasons that I WANT the death certificates is to LEARN what their parents' names were!" I also sent an e-mail to the Secretary of Health and Senior Services and to the Department itself. This is ridiculous. I had the death dates, where they were buried (Eglington in Clarksboro, Gloucester Co), the dates they were buried and their ages at the time of death. In Pennsylvania, California and North Carolina, this was more than enough info for me to get copies of death certs. What a headache Trenton is giving genealogists!

    1. [NJGLOUCE] correction of name spelling Vierck
    2. Valerie N. Caulfield
    3. It is now Viereck - (note the 2nd e) . I don't own a GC phone book, so I couldn't play with the index. Someone gave me a great clue to use Alta vista, for which I have no excuse that I didn't think of that before- I do use it from time to time, but hadn't thought of that today...see, every little bit helps. Great lists we have going here... Thanks again, Val

Thank you all, individually and collectively, who took the trouble to reply. I think we found a winner...<g> I just left a message on her machine. A gal who's last name I didn't remember, but did the Halloween trail after I left Stecher's a few years ago, is the likely donor of the album, as a prop for the haunted house. When she left, it was apparently forgotten, got packed away for several years and was on its way to being ruined by weather. When I went back for a return engagement last fall , I found it, put it in my car and brought it home, hoping to find a clue...but hadn't followed through until clearing a shelf today. I called our old boss, got her number and hopefully it will be back in the family before the week's out. Boy, do I feel good! <g> You all should too.... thanks, Val ps - the name is now spelled Vierck, there is actually a Leslie still in the vicinity, and the clock may have been on display at the Centennial exhibition in 1876 in Philadelphia. More of life's little mysteries solved.... vnc

    1. [NJGLOUCE] old photos rescued from a barn - Mr. Leslie Vierck of Swedesboro?
    2. Valerie N. Caulfield
    3. >From a barn near Swedesboro/Becket....and I hadn't the heart to see them ruined, or trashed, if there was a slim chance I could find them a home. Large, faded, once red velvet covered album, now mostly brown. The word Photographs appears to have adorned the front cover, which has also a large metal clasp. Ones I could identify were made at J.P. Silvers, formerly Potters at Philadelphia, one has M. Herbert Bridle, Photographer at Second above South. I'm assuming that is also a Philadelphia studio. However, many others don't appear to have photographers marks, may have been done locally or in NJ.. I didn't want to risk further damage to the holding sheets, which are getting brittle, in order to pull each photo out. First pic in the album is of something entitled "Mammoth Pennsylvania Clock" Ring any bells for time frame? I'm assuming that was something of a curiosity in it's day. World's Fair or something? Only one tin type of an old gentleman, the rest seem to be hand colored or regular sepia toned photos. A few loose penny postcards are the only other clue. Gen. Mead's Headquarters in Gettysburg, Pa., pub. by A.C.B & Co, no location, - not used. Another that appears to be of a young woman in Indian or is that flapper era feathered headdress? Also seems as if someone not too subtly painted or inked over in color, and her face is marred, pub by Schlesinger Bros., NY. And finally, the only clue I have to link to a family, a colorized post card of the Court House at 10th and Market SSTs, Wilmington, Del. This one is postmarked Wilmington on April 20, 1930 and addressed simply to Mr. Leslie Vierck, Swedesboro, NJ. So many great photos in here, of old people and babies, young men and women, most in the formal study the photographer's studios presented. Little boys in dresses, one baby, sleeping ( I hope) in what appears a forest scene...someone went to great expense and trouble to record these, but failed to identify a single soul by name...seems such a waste. So, if you think you know who Mr. Vierck was or have a similar album in your family, and know you had relatives in the Swedesboro area in general, maybe we can find this thing a rightful home. I was lucky in my own family, my grandmother was able to identify many of her grandmother's relatives, and when I met a cousin from Delaware, he we were able to fill in many blanks by cross referencing from the book he had of his direct lines. Anyway, I just had to give it a shot... Val

    3. Hi Everyone - Well, it's official after 7 years on the West Coast, I'm finally back home in Southern New Jersey, Bridgeton for the time being, perhaps I shall finally get to meet all the kind souls who sent me things while I was stuck way out in California! Anyway, while I'm a bit limited on what I'm able to do right now, my computer sort of halfway crashed and my brother's taking it to work on, this one is my step mom's, I can do some favors for people. I'm just up the road (literally) from the Cumberland County Courthouse, not far from Broad Street Cemetery and a hop, skip and a jump away from Overlook Cemetery, St. Mary's Cemetery, Fernwood Cemetery and other places. So, keeping in mind that I did just arrive last Thursday night, please feel free to ask for something, keeping in mind, that although I may not get to it straight away, I will get to it! It's so good to finally be home! And I just wanted to really thank everyone who was so kind to go digging for records for me and sending them off to me in California, perhaps now I can return the favors!! Hope everyone is well as I've been kind of out of the loop the last month while I was packing and such, I'm still unpacking, but, I figured I'd been "away" from you all long enough. I didn't bother un subscribing because there just wasn't enough traffic to warrant it, I just didn't really read anything :-) Take care - Deb _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com

    3. Dear Diane, Your best bet might be to contact the Gloucester Co. Historical Society, and check their list of publications. I am aware of a couple of Mickle Diaries they have published, but not Hinchman. 1. [NJGLOUCE] Old Diary
    2. Diane DeMore
    3. While surfing the web I was came across the text of "First Settlers Of Newton Township" ( I think that's right) which I had read parts of before. One thing I had never come across was a reference to a diary kept by Joseph Mickle Hinchman, Sr from 1811-1827. It states that this contains historical & genealogical, as well as personal information. This is my husbands direct line. Has anyone ever heard of or seen this book/diary? I am hoping to locate a copy or maybe find where a copy may be kept. This info would be invaluable for my husbands HINCHMAN lineage Diane Personal Website http://www.shovergen.com/Ghosts.html Burlington County Website Co-Ordinator
