    1. Re: [NJGLOUCE-L] Stultz/Roedel
    2. Joan, I can't say I know a whole lot about the Roedel's but, I will ask my mom. See, Gustav and his wife were the best friends of my great grandparents Neumann. Mom told me once that one of her aunts was named after Mrs. Roedel, but, I can't remember which. My great grandparents and two of my great uncles were laid out at their funeral home. Of course, for my great uncles, I believe it was a son or grandson that ran it by that time, in the 1970s. I am calling my mom today (she's in NJ, I'm in TX) I will try to remember to ask about them Diane

    1. [NJGLOUCE-L] Re: STEVENS/STEPHENS;DEU>USA;1840
    2. Hi, Unfortunately my Stevens history is nonexistent at this time as I have just begun my search for my ggrandmother's ancestors (Augusta Stevens Scudder 1860-1941). I found her listed in a Camden, NJ City directory with her husband, Frank A. Scudder in 1902, and one of her daughters (my grandmother), Lillian Stevens Scudder. I understood from my Dad, that she was of German descent. She was a member of the former Emmanuel Baptist Church in Camden, NJ for over 50 yrs, and was also a member of the WCTU. Supposedly her Stevens family came from the Phila. area to Back Neck, NJ and then to Camden, NJ when she was abt. 16 years old. She is buried in New Camden Cem. This is all I have for now. Any info or links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Joan in NJ

    1. [NJGLOUCE-L] Search Fee Increase - N.J. State Archives
    2. John Cresseveur
    3. Hi Folks, I recently submitted a search to the New Jersey Archives. P.O. Box 307, 185 West State Street, Trenton, NJ 08625-0307. Included in their response was the following notice as to the increase in search rates: "As part of a long-term preservation strategy at the State Archives, effective March 1, 1999, the basic fee for searching vital records - for the period May, 1848, to May, 1878 only - will be raised from $4.00 to $10.00 per record searched. The fee will cover a search of up to five (5) consecutive years for each requested record. Each additional block of five consecutive years searched at the same time will cost another $10.00. All funds raised from the increased fee will be designated exclusively for preserving and re-microfilming the vital records in the State Archives. Currently, the original volumes must be handled for each search because most of the existing microfilm copies are partly illegible. With thousands of searches done annually, these heavy, oversize volumes have already deteriorated significantly over the past thirty years. The bindings are loose or broken, and thousands of pages are ragged and torn. Professional conservators charge up to $3,000 per volume to disband, deacidify, and mend them; the microfilming will cost an additional $1,000 each. Due to the size of the vital records collection (100+ volumes) and the high cost of preservation, the State Archives expects that this will be a long-term project, taking up to a decade to complete. While we regret the necessity of raising the search fee for these popular records, we firmly believe it will be an effective, timely and equitable way to prevent the disintegration and loss on one of New Jersey's most important historical and genealogical resources. If you have questions or concerns about this policy, please contact Archives reference services at (609) 292-6265." John Cresseveur

    2. Helen, Thanks for the reply. I've already spoken to the Moods in Elk (Ferrell). They are distant cousins. Charles and Christina are my gggrandparents. They had 7 children and one was my ggrandmother, Sarah Mood. She married William French Lacy and eventually moved to Camden. They also had 7 children, the oldest being my grandfather, Charles F. Lacy of Pennsauken. I'm trying now to take our family back to the German ancestors but not having much luck! Thanks for the info. Joan Lacy Fitzsimmons in NJ

    2. Seeking information on Christina Stultz,b.abt.1833/1836 in Wurttemberg, and was orphaned at age of two. I believe her father's name was Christian Stultz/Stutz, and she possibly had a sister named Christiana. At age 16, abt.1849-1852, she was brought to USA by an aunt and uncle. She married a man, named Charles Mood, also from some area in Wurttemberg, who was born there in 1830. He came to the USA with a brother George and lived in Philadelphia for a while. He met and married Christina and they then moved to Vineland, NJ and worked for Mr. Landis in farming. They eventually moved south of Mullica Hill, NJ and developed a larger farm which is still operating today with some of Charles' and George's' descendants. Charles and Christina Stultz Mood are my gggrandparents. If anyone can offer information or an idea of where I might locate some added details I would be very appreciative. Thank you, Joan in NJ

Gene ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: [NJGLOUCE-L] Manuel COURANT Author: <[email protected] > at internet Date: 4/19/99 8:18 AM I have the SSDI of Manuel COURANT. SSN 140-12-4541 born February 21, 1924, died May 1987 in Gloucester City, NJ 08030. A few questions: (I believe he is the father of my Aunt Bessie who married John Sommers). Does anyone have a phonebook that they can look his street address up in? Does anyone know where he would be buried? He would have probably been Catholic. Any census information for 1920? Any public school information anyone would have in the form of a yearbook lookup? Anything else that I am too stupid to think of??? Thanks, Vince
