3. Today marks the last day Rootsweb mailing lists working. Tomorrow, the Rootsweb mailing lists are no more. All messages that had been posted here are saved and archived, will continue to be accessed and read. Subscription, no more Postings, no more Replies, no more BUT ! Successor lists are here, but at another place The successor list for this list is: https://groups.io/g/nj-genealogy sorry, no county list for this one, not expandable Go to the site and "join this group". This is easy step. David Samuelsen, subscriber

    3. One alternative is the Ancestry message board for Gloucester County: https://www.ancestry.com/boards/localities.northam.usa.states.newjersey.counties.gloucester/mb.ashx The boards are completely free to search and browse and posting is also free as long as you have (or create) a free guest account. 2. Many of the rootsweb groups have already moved to groups.io . I am already subscribed more than half a dozen. I recommend this for all rootsweb groups. It is almost precisely the same as rootsweb. Someone has to step up to create and moderate it. But if that happens, it is the best solution forward in my opinion. 3. Over the years I have used Rootswebs lists very successfully. I almost always got an answer to my posts. I even was given a Family Bible as the result of a very old Rootsweb post which the man who found the Bible had found on a google search. I encouraged everyone that needed assistance to subscribe. I met many people who became friends and helped me and I helped others. But the time for lists is past I guess. I hate to see them go. Genealogy is changing at such a rapid rate, it is hard to keep up with it. And isn't it all wonderful! ---------- Original Message ---------- From: Lindsay Graham <LDGraham@iinet.net.au> To: njglouce@rootsweb.com Subject: ♠[NJGLOUCE]♠ Re: [NJGLOUCE] Mailing lists on Rootsweb will be disabled in March 2020 Date: Fri, 10 Jan 2020 11:33:59 +1100 I beg to differ -- genealogy is still growing, especially with the very great interest in the use of DNA for family history. Email lists are, IMHO, far superior to Facebook and Message Boards for those who are serious about family history research. Several email lists I'm associated with (some on Rootsweb, some on Yahoo) have migrated to Groups.io, and that seems to have been quite successful. Another option is freelists.org, which has the added advantage of allowing attachments. Lindsay Graham Canberra, Australia On 10/1/20 1007, Vincent E. Summers wrote: > Ah. Thanks for the explanation. 3. To whom it may interest, While I am not in any way affiliated to Heritage Leiden in the Netherlands, I send the following excerpt from a news bulletin on their website to all email lists for genealogy in the USA that I am currently subscribed to. "(...) Leiden400 - our program - 2020 marks the 400th anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower, a ship that transported a group of English separatists known as the 'Pilgrims'. Before the Pilgrims set sail to America and founded Plymouth Colony in 1620, they spent twelve years living, working and praying in Leiden, free from religious persecution by the English crown. Four centuries after this journey, America, England, the Native Nations and the Netherlands will organize an international, inclusive commemoration. It will highlight not only the story of the Pilgrims but the cultures and places they came into contact with as well. Heritage Leiden (=Erfgoed Leiden) keeps hundreds of documents on the Pilgrims. In 2020 you can visit us, in groups or as individuals. (...)" Go to https://www.erfgoedleiden.nl/nieuws/1093-leiden400-our-program for more information on e.g. (guided) tours, talks, etc. In the meantime I take this opportunity to wish you a joyous festive season and a prosperous and above all healthy 2020. Regards, Jk. I'm occasionally researching the surnames Kitz (incl. Kytz von Fliesteden), Kitsz and sometimes Kits. Do you have information that may be useful to me? Please send it to John.Kitz-gen (at) xs4all.nl. Friend of the CBG | Center for Family History (CBG) and member of the Working Group Genealogical Research Germany (WGOD).
