** PRIVATE ** Caldwell was and is a town in the northwest corner of Essex County. It was named for James Caldwell, a Presbyterian preacher and patriot during the Revolutionary war. The old town was considerably larger (in territory) than the modern one, including the present towns of Caldwell, North Caldwell, West Caldwell, Fairfield, and, I think, Essex Fells. I am not a specialist in the Wright family, but it is an old family in the area with a presence in Livingston (near Caldwell). WB
