It depends on who was recording the information. Irish priests tended not to record as much information because that was what was done in Ireland.     3. I have found the place of origin for ancestors in the records of St. Casimirs Church. However, it is important to note that you need to write to the specific church to obtain records, rather than the diocese. I found this information on the diocese website, including a form to complete to request the information from the church.     3. Nancy, I found the place of origin (specific villages in Bavaria) of both parents of an infant baptized at St. Mary's in Newark in 1856. That information was not on the records of all the children I was searching. I used the FHC films of the parish records of St. Mary's for births, marriages and deaths and found them all very useful.
