What a marvelous group on this list! Thank you all SO MUCH for your help and suggestions. Our connection is Marie Gravenhorst Ernst (~1849-1897). Her sister, Helene (~1842- after 1897) married late in life, Bernard F. Nutzhorn. Henry M. Nutzhorn, a lawyer, & Helene Nutzhorn are executors of Marie's will, filed and proved in Essex County, NJ. Marie was living in Upper Montclair, NJ after the death of her husband. In her will, Marie G. Ernst leaves money to the Wartburg Orphansfarm School of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the State of NY, located at or near Mount Vernon, Westchester Co, NY. I just learned that a George Gravenhorst was on the board at this farm school from 1877-1923. His son Paul also served on the board from 1923-1951. Paul was president of the board from 1941-1957. I am trying to identify Marie's connection to these Gravenhorst's. I know of two younger brothers of Marie and Helene who came to the USA from Germany. Joseph and Julius are said to have come in 1865/6. Both married in IL and stayed in the west. Could be George (from 1910 census, age 57- born Jan. 1843 in Germany- came to the US in 1864- mechanic) was a brother born between Helene and Marie and was the first to come to the USA. Delighted to learn he had a son Paul born 1883! Thanks again. Janice in Canada
