    1. Gravenhorsts in 1900 Census

    3. To Janice in Canada: I had a quick look on Heritage Quest, available on my home computer through my public library. In the 1900 Census index, there were 12 Gravenhorst heads of households: one in Iowa, 2 in Illinois, 2 in Kansas, one in New Jersey (Gustave in Newark), and 6 in New York (Anna M., Carl H., Frederick, George, Jacob, and Wm. B). Looked at George. He was in Kings Co., 20th Ward, Brooklyn, at 304 Carleton Avenue. T623, roll 1057, ED 314, p. 2A. George was b. Jan. 1843 in Germany, was age 57, married 30 years, immigrated to U.S. in 1864, had been in U.S. for 36 years, was naturalized, occupation merchant. He was enumerated with his wife Katharine, also b. Germany, daughter Elsa and Sons Fred and Carl, all three b. NY. I also checked Heritage Quest for Gravenhorsts in 1870. There were none. That doesn't mean they weren't there; the enumerator may have misspelled the name. Hope this helps. Ann in Maryland
