    3. I am looking for any information on the GREEN name for 1850. My ggrandfather was in the Newark census for that year, his name Francis C. GREEN. He was single. He was born in England. I don't know when he came to this country, but suspect it may have been as an adult. I don't know if he was in Newark for any length of time or if he was just passing through. He spent much of his adult life in Dutchess Co. NY. The census gives his age as 23, but all other records have him b. ca. 1829, which would make him about 21 in 1850. He was a carriage trimmer. I found a whole raft of GREENS in Newark that census, many of them in the carriage building business and most of them close to Francis in the census pages. One of those GREENS was listed as a carriage builder, presumeably running a manufacturing business. Perhaps carriage building was a family business. Loreen Wells
