Sure wish I could find out who the WOODRUFF husband was of Mary "Polly" (Mills) Stites-Woodruff, and what happened to her and Mr. Woodruff. She was dau/o William Mills #1 and Amy ??? of Elizabethtown and Westfield Twp., Essex Co. (now Union Co.) New Jersey; was probably born ca 1760 in Westfield Township, Union Co., NJ. After her unlawful marriage to Benjamin Stites and traveling to Ohio with him, she returned home on discovery the fallicy of her marriage. Her mother's (Amy [???] Mills) will names her as Polly Woodruff and names her Stites children. By Benjamin Stites she was the mother of two illegitimate children and it is not known if she had children by Mr. Woodruff: ......John Gano Stites b abt. 1785 KY or OH, who married 1808 Westfield, NJ to Martha Cory (dau/o Joseph Cory and Margaret Darby) b 1786 Westfield, Union Co., NJ. Is said to have lived ca 1812 in Lebanon, Warren Co., OH. ......Mary R. Stites b 1791 NJ. Price and had two unknown sons before his death; and abt. 1840 perhaps Hamilton Co., OH to (3) Edward Woods. She is said to have died Aft. 1865 in Warren Co., OH. "Joseph Cory, b. 1757, d. 1802, son of Jonathan Cory, married (1) Margaret, daughter John Darby, (2) Ruth (Terry), widow of Aaron Woodruff. Joseph Cory lived on the old Cory homestead on Mountain Ave. where his grandson Levi Cory afterwards resided. He was a Revolutionary soldier, and member of the Presbyterian Church."
