    3. Hello Essex County Researchers, First, I'd like to thank everyone for trusting me to handle the off topic post of the other day, via personal email and not disrupting the list. Secondly, one of our list subscribers brought to my attention a FTP site that had a partial New Jersey Census from 1880. It was about 1% of the total. I've extracted the Newark data (there was none for any other part of Essex, although I suspect a few of the Newark ones are from the surrounding area). You will find that data reformatted and indexed on the Virtual Newark site. There are about 550 surnames on the census. Please note that I have also provided the FTP URL for anyone who wants to check out the other states. Also the information that I have posted is the only information that I know so please don't email me asking for further information. And lastly, if anyone can figure out the coding on the census please explain it to me. I've tried to get their EXTRACT program to work without success. Good Luck, Glenn G.
