A book was published called Records of Officers and Men of NJ in Wars 1791-1815. In the book there is reference to Thomas Penn-Musician, Capt. Henry H. Van Dalsem's Company; enlisted Feb 16, 1813 for eighteen months; discharged Aug. 11, 1814, expiration of service; re-enlisted at Elizabeth, NJ, as private in Capt. Jacob D. Howell's Company, Nov. 21,1814 for five years; transferred to Captain Armstrong Irvine's company H, Light Artillery, Oct 1, 1815; discharged Oct. 26, 1816; inability. I filled out the form for National Archives for copies of veterans records, but it was sent back 'unable to locate file'. Did I request records from the wrong place? Is there anyone out there who is familiar with these Company's and can help guide me in finding Thomas Penns' military records? Appreciate any information... Linda in Colorado
