Hello ECRs, The Virtual Newark pages have been officially moved to the new site and the old site closed. I have added more information, pictures and have much more to add. This will take place over the next few months. I also have added the Ward information for the following dates: 1850, 1860, 1870, 1895, & 1915. The Ward information for 1880 & 1905 will be added soon. If you can't wait, email me and I'll look it up for you. The Essex County pages have basically remained the same. I'll be looking for volunteers for each city in the county. What I'd like them to do is research the history of the city as to what churches, cemeteries, associations, etc. were there so that they can be added to the site. If anyone else can transcribe any information at all about something in the county please contact me. I have added a promising new paid researcher to the Essex County Web Site. His name is Michael O. Anderson. Here is the opening blurb from his web site: "Research at the U.S. National Archives can be very rewarding for anyone seeking information or documents on their family history or The Civil War. While engaging in my own personal research in these areas, I realize what an asset it is to be located near the primary National Archive that has historical resources no other archives have in the U.S., and now I would like to assist others by researching a host of primary sources in the following areas at the National Archives." His web address is: <http://www.impactvr.com/DCResearch/> Stop by it and see what he has to offer. The GenConnect Query/Information Forums are undergoing a renovation. It has nothing directly to do with the County Sites, only the Surname Sites. Because of this I will be working on my Surname Sites (I administer 4 surname sites) to get them up and going so I may be a little late in answering any questions sent to me. Information on the renovation was in last weeks RootsWeb Review. Since it has nothing to do with this mailing list please do not discuss it here. If you have any questions on it just send me email. And lastly, for those of you who have waded through my update, I have acquired a 1940 City Directory. I am able to do lookups for you in the following categories, ancestor names (both first and last names only!), associations (only if they existed and where), if you know the address of your ancestor, I can tell you who else lived in the building (the book is missing pages on this so I can only go from Abbotsford Ave to North Seventh Street), and the other typical City Directory listings. IMPORTANT, please put "DIRECTORY LOOKUP" in the subject line. Please remember I cannot scan the directory so keep you ancestor names to first and last names only. Thank You and Good Luck, Glenn G. Geisheimer, Iselin, New Jersey: glenng@castle.net If I've been able to point you in a direction, please email me with your results so that I may help other researchers.
