    2. Tip: Using the Microfilm/Microfiche Number Search on FamilySearch.org One of the handiest features on the new FamilySearch website is the online catalog of the Family History Library. There are several ways to search this catalog, and the microfilm/microfiche number search can be extremely useful for researchers who are trying to verify data they have found in family collections, in family histories, and in such compilations as the Ancestral File. In many of these instances, the original compiler of the data often gave sketchy source references to the data, such as "Boston church records" or "Alabama county marriages", including an FHL microfilm number rather than a full bibliographic reference. Now you can use the microfilm/microfiche number search on FamilySearch to follow up on these vague source references. Just type in the FHL number of the film or fiche, and you can get a full list of the items on the film, and links to more complete descriptions of each item. This in turn may lead to a full list of other rolls of film if it is part of a series, such as a census schedule. Resource: FamilySearch http://www.familysearch.org
