In response to the following: <Hi, Can anyone tell me who to contact in Essex Cnty to get copies of Declaration of Intent and Naturalization Papers from the late 1840s, early 1850s? Thank you, Connie> You have a few choices but need to know where both were filed - they were not always in the same place due to the length of time required for them. An individual could even file his intent in one state and receive his final papers in another. Try the following if you feel the naturalization was filed in Essex County - www.essexclerk.com/vault.html You could also try your local LDS - they have an index film which may lead you to your ancestor. Many of the papers which were filmed were filmed with all the pertaining documents (both intent and naturalization). Hope this helps, Barbara
