    3. Hi Jane, It's nice to see someone else who has connections to Clinton, NJ. My Lindsley ancestors lived there in the 1800s and I am gradually learning more about them and this area. Clinton is now Irvington, NJ and part of Newark. The town (or at least parts of it) have been known as West Farms, Camptown, Clinton, then Irvington. In the 1870 census I found my Clinton ancestors listed in S. Orange, with a notation on the census page that the P.O. is Irvington. The first Irvington settlers arrived in the late 1600's, and many of them were the Connecticut families (or their offspring) who had founded Newark. I don't have any knowledge of your book, but would like to ask if it is indexed? If so, would you mind checking to see if there is a mention of any "Lindsleys"? Incidently, I was at the FHC today looking at the 1870 census and I seem to recall seeing a listing for Ira Gardner (& I think the occupation was "hatter") - was your ancestor still living in Clinton in 1870?
