    3. Thanks to the voluntary "looker-uppers", I have determined that IRA GARDNER lived in Clinton Township in 1860 ! Maybe now there will be a marriage listing for SARAH JANE SMITH somewhere ! Does anyone know where the township records might be for Clinton ? (Not to be confused with the current Clinton in Hunterdon County !) I have a book called "Historical Collections of New Jersey : Past and Present authored by John W. Barber, assisted by Henry Howe, 1865 which apparently belonged to IRA GARDNER and then to his daughter, Edith Gardner Burnett (my grandmother). It describes Clinton Township as being formed from Newark, Elizabethtown and Orange in 1834, with a population of 3,676.It gives the boundaries in detail. Does anyone know anything about this book ? Is it a common volume ? It has 543 pages and a great deal of Indian and Revolutionary War history, as well as engravings. I'm anxious to unravel the mystery of what happened to the original Clinton ! Thanks for your help. Jane R. Elliott
