Greetings! I'm looking for any information on my "Prussian" ancestors that emigrated to Newark, NJ in 1869. Friedrich Wilhelm SOMMER and Emilie (WESTER) SOMMER listed Prussia as their place of origin in the 1870 US Census. Their children Charles, Lydia Augusta, and Frederick were also listed as being from Prussia. Their other children, William, Adelheides, Hulda, Minnie, and Otto, were born in Newark. I believe that I found them in the Germans to America book, volume 23, arriving in New York from Bremen on 23 September 1869 on the ship Smidt. They are listed as being from Wurtemberg. Friedrich filed a Declaration of Intention on 26 October 1874 declaring against the Emperor of Germany. I will accept any and all suggestions, rumors, ideas, advice, and leads! Thanks in advance!
