Hello Listers- I am trying to resolve conflicting information re Samuel Williams ( -d.20 Oct. 1801) buried in First Pres.Church Yard, Elizabeth, Essex/Union Co.; married Jane (b.1734-d.20 Feb. 1807),born and died in Elizabeth, Essex/Union Co., NJ. Family records say he was the son of Elizabeth (Foster?) and Joseph WILLIAMS (1713-1776), who was the son of Joseph WILLIAMS (cir.1683-1737) and wife Mary. This Joseph was the first son of Samuel WILLIAMS (1653-1706), who moved to Exssex Co. from Connecticut and married Esther WHEELER. Samuel was the son of Matthew WILLIAMS (cir 1605-1679) and Susannah COLE of Wethersfield, CT. However, I have just received the book "The Williams Families of NJ (Descendants of Matthew Williams of Wethersfield, CT)" by Lyle Keith Williams, which claims that my Samuel is the son of Phebe & Miles WILLIAMS, the son of Samuel, the son of Thomas, the son of Matthew (above).
