I have found a reference in an NJ census to a possible ancestor (My gggrandfatger was a Joseph Gilbert MARTIEN, born 1815 Albany NY) and would like to check the details in the census, but am unsure exactly what to look for. The information I have gathered is below. I gather the 1850 census is fairly large, and I want to make sure that if I order a peice of it (say from the latter day saints) it will be the correct one (or does one get the whole thing?). I would appreciate any suggestions that would make my search as maximally fruitful as possible. >From what I can gather from the data below the 1850 census was partial, but happened to incude NJ Essex Co. N Ward. From the rootsweb NJ site I gather that Essex Co was on roll 449 or 450, is this a meaningful or useful peice of information. Any suggestions, pointers etc. greatly appreciated.
