On the certificate of arrival is: Federal Number Date of Arrival Name of Person Port of Arrival (in my father's case it was New York, NY) Type of Arrival (in my father's case it was "SS California") I was suprised to find the ship's name. Upon investigation, I found the California made regular trips between the Port of Glasgow and New York City and even managed to get a picture of the ship. Be careful and there were other ships named California before and after 1914 (his arrival date) and one named the Californian which was part of the Titanic story in 1912. Dave from Long Island
