Greetings, My ancestors are Edwards. I've traced them back to Ira Edwards, born in NJ in 1803 and died in Onondaga County, NY in about 1863. He was married to Phoebe Gildersleeve born about the same time and she died in Michigan in 1868. Phoebe could have been from Essex as well. We have a 1920s handwritten family tree that places Ira's father as John, John's father as John and it leads back to Essex, NJ. But we've not been able to establish Ira's place or birth, nor really identify his parents. Anybody out there familiar with the Edwards and Gildersleeve clans of NJ, particularly of the Essex area?
