Hi Jean, I noticed you are researching DOWNS. My Downs family lived in Newark and Rahway, but originally they came from New Haven, Conn. I'm especially looking for Edwin B. Downs who married Margaret E. Unknown either in Conn. or NJ probably about 1858 or 1859. He stayed in NJ almost ten years, then they went to Iowa, returning to NJ in the 1890s.
