    1. Re: Blanked-out death certificates
    2. Hi Group: Referring to NJ death certificates and the cause of death deleted: << I received my great-grandfather's 1929 NJ [Essex County] death certificate with a whole section blanked out! >> You can find microfilm copies of all birth records up to 1923, and all marriages and deaths up to 1940 in the NJ State Archives located in Trenton. The copies of the death certificates at the Archives DO NOT have the cause of death blanked out. I was there in October and obtained many certificates with a great deal of information on them. Upstairs in the State Library, both the Star Ledger and the Newark Evening News are on microfilm as well. The staff at the Archives was very helpful when I was there; however, they have few readers and had only one printer at the time. We were limited in the amount of time we could spend on our readers; although, we just signed up for additional time and changed readers when necessary. It is definitely worth a trip to Trenton. Parking is available beneath the building; lunch can be obtained in the Museum gallery cafe located within the compound.
