    1. [NJESSEX] Westfield grant of NH land
    2. It sounds like a settlement for an old Mason propietor right when Westfield residents got NH land. It is complicated but Captain John Mason and others received a huge grant in NH in 1622. He abandoned it in 1633 and left unpaid bills and people living there who had not been paid wages. The latter when they claimed it got land for their wage settlements from the widow Mason. Francis Drake left NH and transferred such land on Auguts 5, 1665. He settled in Piscataway, NJ. The NH land was not recorded sold until 1712. I would guess that when nearby Westfield folk heard of the recogition of the right of Francis Drake that they(descendents) sued NH in a class action suit for similiar past deprivation of land rights.
