3. Beverly, you can get a copy of the actual document at LDS library. You have to order the film and then you can copy it. I have my gggGrandfather's will in his handwriting from there. 1. [NJESSEX] {NJESSEX}{ H} HARRISON- Newark
    2. Beverly Porter
    3. I'm looking for any information on Mercy HARRISON, the second wife of John TOMKINS. He was born circa 1700. I very loosely estimate she was born around 1715 and that they married about 1738, shortly after his first wife, Rebecca ROBERTS, died. Although Mercy is not part of my direct line, she must have raised my ancestor Aaron Tomkins, 1735-1823, and I would like to find out more about her. There were many Harrisons around; I would like to determine her parents and siblings, if possible. Several Harrisons were later witnesses or executors on Aarons will; some I imagine were related to Mercy. Thanks for any aid. Beverly Fearn Porter, Columbia, MD

    3. Thanks, Wilson. That's about what I feared, but I thought it was worth a try. John Tomkins had two wives, and I believe my Aaron, born in 1735, was the next to the last child he had with his first wife, Rebecca Roberts, but I keep searching for some proof. ----- Original Message ----- From: Wilson Brown To: bporter@comcast.net ; njessex@rootsweb.com ; NJESSEX-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, February 28, 2007 9:14 PM Subject: Re: [NJESSEX] Early Wills Your hope may be in vain. Generally the abstracts include all the names of the people mentioned. The full will includes the long preamble ("I George Smith, being of sound mind but weak in body....", what is actually bequeathed, "I bequeath unto my daughter, Esmeralda, one pound and the child's chair in the kitchen.", and other details which may give some insight as to the character of the person writing the will, but you won't find any more names. 3. Karen, I don't know if you have tried any variations on the surname Huck, but there are about twenty different ones, including my line of Howk or Houk. It is also spelled Houck, Hauck, etc., and sometimes the four-letter name is misread as Hawk (as I discovered on a couple of Census reports). 2. I'm not sure if you should go through the trouble George. I was just filling in some gaps since the letter H came up. I'm not related to the Huntleys'. My gr gr aunt married a Huntley, I think the name and date is sufficient. Thanks though, Pat

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone.
