I don't know much, if anything, about this, but I have a friend who subscribed to Ancestry Canada for $9.99 a week. He said that is because they (Ancestry.com) are going to discontinue much of their service, worldwide. I think you may be referring to discontinueing "free" access at Family History Libraries. http://genealogy.about.com/?once=true& I also have the US Deluxe and at this time has no need for the World Deluxe. Though I would like to have access to Canada's records. I have subscribed for many years and saw the most drastic subscription reduction this fall. I used to subscribe to the individual packages that are all now included in the US Deluxe. I would guess my yearly subscription also dropped at least $100/year. I was not happy with having to go to automatic billing. I liked it when the sales person called once a year to try to convince me to add different subscriptions. They were very pleasant people and very helpful. I was told that they laid off the majority of these sales people, went to the auto billing, and were able to drop their rates considerably. I can't imagine them quitting service. I have had to go back and re-research many of my family names because they have added such a tremendous amount of new information. Two MOREHOUSE mysteries, probably both in 1789, which I could use help with. 1. Sarah MOREHOUSE was Aaron Tompkins third wife. They are both noted in her father Stephen's 1807 will. But I still can't determine where they were married, i.e. what church, or when. It was probably in 1789, a year before the birth of their first son, Isaac. I've looked at a variety of churches, Hanover etc, but have come up empty. 2. John MOREHOUSE. I think that John MOREHOUSE married Aaron TOMPKINS daughter Elizabeth by his first wife, Hannah Canfield, also in 1789. There was a marriage between a Betsy TOMPKINS and John MOREHOUSE at Hanover Presbyterian church. But how can I check if these two are really mine? Thanks to everyone on this lively list. This orphanage has been closed for many years. The records could be in one of two places: Seton Hall University Library or the Archives of the Sisters of Charity who ran the orphanage. For the Archives, contact Sister Elizabeth McLaughlin at (973) 290-5417. For Seton Hall Library contact Kate Dodds, Librarian.. I don't have that number, but I am sure you can get it from Information. Good Luck. Pat Beaumont
Sorry, I couldn't make it out at all. It wasn't blurry because it was copied, its badly damaged. Pat Cannella ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Hello folks, I missed the "L" section. Anyone researching LYON? I have Marietta (also Martha) LYON 25 Jan 1815 - 15 Dec 1900 who m. 9 May 1830 to William Harvey JOHNSON 9 Jul 1805 - 31 Oct 1902. She was his second wife. Marietta's parents are Lewis Lyon and Abigail Fordyce (the death certificate only had Lewis Lyon and Miss Fordyce). I also have this, a copy of which I would love to obtain: From "History of Union County New Jersey 1664 - 1923" by A. Van Doren Honeyman, P. 329, "William H. Johnson was born in Maplewood, New Jersey, July 9 1805, and died in Union, New Jersey, in 1902. He was a shoemaker and farmer all his life. He was a chorister for many years in the Connecticut Farms Presbyterian Church. He married, May 9, 1830, for his second wife, Marietta LYON. She died in 1900, aged eighty-six years, and had been the mother of thirteen children, ten of whom survived her. Through the mother of Marietta (Lyon) Johnson, she was descended from Anneke Jans, wife of Dominie Bogardus, of New Amsterdam."
