Good Day, I'm reposting this query for my STAPLETON family from Newark, NJ. THey are interwined with LEVEY and CULLIGAN. Additionally, William Stapleton became a Doctor and ultimately moved to Mass for his practice. Interestingly enough, he moved his family back to Newark and all are now buried in Newark. Wiil appreciate any info on STAPLETON, CULLIGAN or LEVEY. Thanx, Jack Here's what I know, have documented:Peter LEVEY married Catherine GREY in St. John's Catholic Church 7/3/1853. They had three children:Ellen LEVEY married William F. Carson in 1882, St. James Catholic Church;Bernard LEVEY married Ellen CULLIGAN in 1882 , as above;Sarah LEVEY married William P. Stapleton in 1889 (Sarah & William are the grandparents of Vivian Stapleton Blaine - star of Guys and Dolls)They all lived on Gotthardt St or Elm Road, Down Neck.1905 New Jersey census - Bernard says his father Peter born in Conn, yet this is not the case on 1915 NJ Census - where Peter is born in NJ. 1860, 1870 and 1880 Fed Census list Peter being born in NJ.1860 Fed Census (taken in Millburn) shows Peter with family. Wouldn't doubt they lived there upon arrival in the states --- cannot find/have no info on Peter's naturalization or arrival dates.Would appreciate any info on this LEVEY family.......(or STAPLETON family). Thanx, Jack jaxon2@juno.com
Searching for info on an Eliza (van Blarcom) STAGG. Last found her in 1850 census without husband John. Not found in 1860 census, children living with various relatives so I presume she died between the two census. Any info on her, or any ideas where to search next, greatly appreciated. I am looking for any peripheral lines for any of the Theberaths who were in Newark for a number of years as minister of the German Presbyterian Church of Newark, local politicians, and jewelers: Charles Henry, Charles M., and Jacob. I am particularly interested in finding the wife of Jacob H. Theberath, born September 1840 in Koblenz, Germany, and died February 22, 1907 in Newark. He was a jeweler. There appears to be some relationship with this family and the Dobra or Schaefer families who were also in Newark, with it being most likely the wife of Jacob. Charlotte Kaufman

I think we're going to change things up a bit. Surname postings for the last few weeks have been down since the beginning of the Alphabet. So, let's post the next three letters: R - S -T. Please start posting your 'R', 'S' and 'T' surnames. RULES: ======================================= 1. Your subject line: [NJESSEX] [R] SURNAME - city So if you are researching the surname RYAN in Newark your subject line should read [NJESSEX] [R] RYAN - Newark or if you have a timeframe it could also be [NJESSEX] [R] RYAN - Newark (1880-1900) 2. Maximum time devoted to a single letter with be 1 week 3. Minimum time will be 48-hours if there's not a lot of activity or response 4. Surnames should be all CAPS to stand out 5. If you have a long surname then keep the subject line short. Long subject lines will get cut-off by your email program. Reserve important details for the text in the body. 6. Body - be precise. List pertinent names, dates, events, questions in the body text. 7. Important: list dates/years if known. Your John Anderson born in 1900 will not be the same as someone elses John Anderson born in 1875. But without any dates noone will know. 8. When replying about any NAME asked for, reply to the LIST, not just to the sender. Members who may have ancillary connections, will get the benefit. And we'll make new friends as well! 9. Finally, close your email with your name and your email address. 10. HAVE FUN !!!!!! If you have any questions, PLEASE, don't hesitate to contact me. Have fun posting! Looking for help in finding out what happened to a great Uncle who came to New Jersey, with his grown up family, in the 1923 -4. He was visited by our grandfather (who was also a sailor) whenever he was in America. His name was Thomas Charles PEDLER (known in the UK as 'Charlie' but as he got older reverted to his first name of Thomas). He was born in 1880 in Plymouth Devon England. He went into the Royal Navy at 16 yrs and became a ships carpenter. Whilst he was in the navy he married a Harriet PEDLER (think it's just a coincidence they had the same surname) and had 2 children: Winifred (13th Aug 1903) and Leslie Thomas (2nd Feb 1908). When he came out of the navy in 1920 the family packed their bags and went to New Jersey. He worked as a carpenter in America. The family appear to have stopped in New Jersey. We have his obituary, which was amongst our grandfathers papers. He died January 1954 and the given address was Summit Drive Denville NJ. At the time his wife and children were still all alive. Winifred appears to have married and her married name is PIPI. her address is given as Morris NJ. In the UK she was a nurse not sure if she continued this career in America. Leslie gives an address as Bloomfield NJ. In the UK he was studying to be a solicitor (lawyer) but again not sure if he continued with this profession. We know very little else about this man, as he had been and gone before we were born. We would be grateful for any help any one can give us about what 1920's New Jersey would have been like. Where is Summit Drive? If any of his family are still alive and want to contact us that would be an added bonus as what we have from his navel records show him to be a very interesting man. Thank you for any help Karen and John

Mary, Guess I wrote the wrong person. If you come across any McCormick's in your travels I would appreciate the list. I traved to Newark NJ Library a couple of years ago and it was an experance. Had to park our care in a safe (?) garage and walk to the library. Also think they overcharged us being we had out of state plates. Don't think I will try that trip again being I'm near 80. I live in AZ a long way away. Any help would be appreciated. Mary, None of those Koelsch names fall in my family that I know of. This is a new family name for me and I don't have a lot of information on them Thanks for your help. Shirley ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Hi Shirley, We'll be happy to take a picture of your gravesites - even though we are 95% sure there are no tombstones -- but we'll double check. We have no Koelsch burials. However, I checked Kelsch in case they dropped the "o", and we have several Kelsch. - William, Lillian, Anna (Rieder), and Dorothy. Let me know if these given names are correct.
