WETHLING family arrived in Orange late 1850's. Apparently, Mr. WETHLING had died prior to immigration and his widow Anna had married Mr. WEIDEMEYER (spelled various ways on records) Anna CANEHEL WETHLING WEIDEMEYER,according to her death certificate, was born at Danschendorf, Isle of Fehmarn, Germany. She is buried at the Old Burying Ground of St. Mark's Church that is located across the driveway from the Presbyterian Church and Cemetery at the corner of Scotland and Main in Orange. (St. Mark's was located in West Orange.) Children that immigrated with Anna and her husband were all WETHLING children. Dora WETHLING m. I would like to thank every one for their help in my search for members of the Pedler family who came to New Jersey from Plymouth Devon England. Thanks to some brillant detective work by Linda, I have now located a Great Great Uncle who came to New Jersey in 1885. His name was Edwin PEDLER. He was born in the June 1/4 1861 at Plymouth Devon. His father was a stone mason and Edwin also followed his trade. Edwin married a Louisa Dunn in the December 1/4 of 1882 at Plymouth Devon. The 1920 census shows he came to the USA in 1885 and took USA citizenship (?) in 1895. In1923 he was living 122 Carden Street Hobecken NJ. In 1920 he is living at 156 Hudson Street Hobecken NJ. With him is his wife and he is down as Father in law. It looks as if his son in law is an American Navy sailor, of Norwegian descent - John UNDERSON. His wife (and thought to be Edwin's daughter) is called Helen and it states she was born in the UK I can find a birth for a Helen PEDLER in 1887 at Crediton Devon (not far from Plymouth) Edwins wife on the 1920 census is Harriet PEDLER. Harriet was born in New Jersey and is aged 53 yrs. So it appears that Louisa may have died sometime between 1882 and 1920. I have checked the UK BMD and no Louisa Pedler had a death registered in that period, so I am presuming she died in New Jersey. They also have 3 nephew and nieces living with them, William, Evelin, Edward KASCH Does this family link with anyone out there? Thank you again for all your help Karen
Sorry for the delay in posting my S & T names. I am looking for more information on my Smith ancestors. They are linked to more families - Cahill in Ireland and Bauer in Orange and elsewhere. My second great grandparents were Peter Smith, born in County Cavan Ireland about 1807 - 2 Nov. 1874 when he died in Newark. His wife was Ann Cahill, born in Ireland about 1817 and died in either Newark or Orange on May 22, 1889. I am looking for her Obit. She is buried in Holy Sepluchre Cemetery. The cemetery record shows that the Funeral was from Parrow St. Orange where my g. grandfather Michael Smith lived with his family. The owner of the grave plot was her son-in-law William H. Tamage or Talmadge. Wm. was married to Bridget Smith. They had two sons: George Francis T. born in Newark 7 July 1868 and James Benjamin Tammage also born in Newark on 10 Mar. 1872. On their 1870 federal census page is a listing for the family of Laurence Cahill. I do not know if she is connected to this family but I am trying to find out and I have heard from others before thru this Discussion List. My Smith's lived near Cahill's in Newark on the different Smith family census pages I have found. A surviving son was Michael Smith; born October 1845 - died in Orange on December 11, 1904. He was my great grandfather. One of his sons was my Grandfather Andrew Francis Smith, 18 March 1880 - 15 September 1944. Michael's Smith's youngest daughter was Mary Christina Smith, born 15 Dec. 1891 in Orange. She married Frederick Bauer probably prior to 1915. She had a son also named Fred, 1920-1976, who was my father's first cousin. Looking for any Smith, Cahill, tammage/Talmadge, & Bauer connections. I am willing to share my info. with others connected to me. Thanks, Jack ________________________________________________________________________ AOL now offers free email to everyone. Hi, I am looking for Honora "Nora" WINN (or WYNN or other spellings), born about 1827 in Ireland and died after 1880 probably in New Jersey. She was the daughter of William WINN. She and Michael DONNELLY (about 1822-1850), also from Ireland, had a son, Thomas John DONNELLY (1849-1928) who was christened in 1849 at Saint John Catholic Church in Newark. Michael died at age 28 of dysentery on East River Road in Newark when baby Thomas was only about a year old. Baby Thomas was raised by Mary and John DARDIS in Madison County, New York. I think Nora WINN, still living in Essex County, New Jersey, then married Elisha WILLIAMS (about 1820-before 1880), and they had a son, Terrance WILLIAMS (born about 1854). I have so many questions about Nora Winn. Were Nora and Michael married? Where in Ireland were they from? Who was Nora's mother? What was Nora's relationship to the DARDIS family who raised her son Thomas? Who was Elisha WILLIAMS? Did Thomas and Terrance know of each other's existence? Are there any photos of Nora? Where is she buried? Was Michael really buried in a mass grave associated with Saint John's? I appreciate any help, ideas, or leads. Thanks, Sharlotte Donnelly donnelly@one.net http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/d-o/n/Sharlotte--N-Donnelly
Hi, WALDMANN. Looking for information on Andreas Waldmann born 1823 in Maikammer Germany. Wife, Friedericka CONSTANTINE. Would appreciate hearing from any relation to the family ... this is from david at _treetrails@hotmail.com_ (mailto:treetrails@hotmail.com) and please contact him there so he can keep straight any requests you have for info from the lists. once again, i am only passing along info from david- linda Howdy folks - beginning with this section, and the last two remaining volumes yet to be completed, you will begin to see mentionings of locations as 'East Jersey' or 'West Jersey' and even places now considered in NY but which, in those earlier times, the demarkation lines had not been decided. As well, there will be a greater number of blank sections in the 'Late of' column due to the fact that, in trying to decipher the entries, it seems quite difficult for me to reach a conclusion as to where folks may have come from. Even though a particular will may have been 'proved' in a specific NJ county, but the will owner was not of NJ, that bit of data has been left out; it is apparent the testator may simply have owned land in NJ but resided elsewhere. As usual, setup your page in 'landscape' with 1" borders. Anyone wishing me to transcribe an entry, send your request(s) to my offlist address treetrails@hotmail.com and include the whole line of data so I can more easily find the original source. Lucy, Thank you for responding to my Tompkins message. I have looked further into the Condit relationship, particularly since a son of Isaac Tompkins married the daughter of another Condit, wife of a Kent. But so far that hasn't helped me with the earlier records. The Cooper relationship is a bit different. Although Elizabeth Cooper was born in New Jersey, her father, Gilbert, came from New York. I have worked his line back another generation or two up there. I try to take a look at any wills and property records I can get hold of or send for. So far I haven't found anything for John Tompkins, although I have had some correspondence. I would love to go to Newark and Trenton to look at some of the materials more directly, but I am not able to travel much at this time. ( How I wish my genealogical interest had sprung up earlier when I was actually living in Trenton!) Hi Beverly: I see from your descendant list that you are related to some other old families of early Newark, NJ: Condit and Cooper among them. Try getting into those families a bit and you may pick up some info about your Tompkins guy. There's also wills and property records to review, if you can get a hold of them. There are books with synopses of early NJ wills in them, as you know. Property record reviews may require a visit to the Newark historical society in Newark or the NJ state genealogical collections at Rutgers U. and in Trenton. Good luck. Nothing is easy............... And finally I come to my TOMPKINS. I could hardly wait until we reached the T's! By now, I'm sure you've heard more than you ever wanted to know about my Aaron Tompkins, 1735-1823, but with his multiple marriages he does get intertwined with a number of lines. My major focus now is to clearly establish the link between him and John Tompkins, b about 1700, and Rebecca Roberts who are I believe his parents. Information on his three siblings, Ichabod, 1726-1761, Jacob and Jedediah, 1736-1816 would be useful too. If I am successful there I will move on back to the 1600's and the Micah Tompkins of Newark. >From Aaron on down to the present, my information is fairly good, but I'm still working hard on the earlier generations.
