DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT CATHOLIC ORPHANGES, RUN BY NUNS,were in existance during those years? Thanx, Barbara.
hi, I have another request for all you Essex county explorers. I have found that one aunt and two uncles were placed in an orphanage in Newark in the early 1900's. I have been given a name of Newark Orphanage Asylum that was being run at that time. Does anyone have a clue where to go for records? I am hoping to find something on where they had been put and maybe some names too. Thanks in advance. Hi, Happy '99 to all. My searches have lead me to Marie Schandel, b.1882 in Hungary?, d.1915 Newark, NJ. She was my grandfather, John Treier's, first wife. I have no information on her at all and all roads have lead to dead ends. I cannot locate a death cert. or marriage cert. There appears to be no records at all for her. Thanks for any help. To: Glenn Geisheimer: Does anyone know the names of the orphanages that would have been in existance around 1895-1900 in Newark, NJ. My grandmother and her sisters were placed in one when their mother died. TIA Judy in No. Carolina

Hi everybody! I haven't been getting posts from the ESSEX group for a couple of days. Is there a problem? I didn't UNSUBSCRIBE. Happy New Year! Drive safely! Liz France Liz3130@aol.com (Searching JACOB and LOWE in Hudson and Essex Cos.)
I have not had a message from Essex county in over a week. Is there something wrong with the list that it is not forwarding messages? I've had over 50 from Hudson County and over 20 from Ireland so I know that my e-mail is working. Judy in No. Carolina fjbgator@worldnet.att.net

Does anyone researching the Bonnell/Bunnell family have a listing of a marriage to Eunice Berry b. 1816 in N.J.? She re-married after he died to a Daniel Butz/Butts. Thanks. Sondra
Hello. I am wondering if there is someone who has access to the Essex Co. courthouse who can do two lookups for me. I am interested in the following persons. I am especially interested in the names of their parents. They may have been a married couple, so Meta's maiden name would have been different for a birth lookup, but should be on the death record. Persons are: Louis KOLTER b. 4 Dec 1884, probably Essex Co. D. 1 Jan 1968 in Livingston, NJ, Essex Co. Meta KOLTER, maiden name unknown b. 16 Feb 1886, not known if in Essex County d. July 1975 in Livingston, NJ, Essex Co. I would be interested in what these records say if found. Thank you in advance. Dar in Florida at dhackle@ix.netcom.com
Hi Jackie, Thanks very much for the further update on Lydia Bonnell's family. I'd like to show you what I've found. Let me know if you think I'm misinterpreting it when I say it looks to me like Lydia is Isaac Bonnel's daughter. This is from the NJ Archives books of Wills, Vol. 23, p. 47-48. It's a will abstract. "1711-2, Jan.15. Bonnel, Bonnell, Isaac, of Elizabeth Town, Essex Co., planter; will of. Wife Elizabeth. Children - Isaac, Abraham, Jacob, John, William, all under age, Lydia and Sarah. Home farm on the South Branch in Elizabeth Town bounds, partly derived from father Nathanel Bounel, partly bo't of Samuel Bounel and Joseph Bounel, 50 acres on the Middle Branch, a tract of land called New Britain; personal estate. Executors - brothers Joseph and Benjamin Bounel. Witnesses - Jonathan Dickinson, Corneliues Hetfield, Samuel Whitehead. Proved January 29, 1711-2." Lib. 1, p.368. It looks to me like Lydia and Sarah are still his children, but not under age (21, I suppose?). What do you think? Looking for info. on ancestor John Koller who had 3 daughters, Lena, Frieda and Ella in the 1890s. John patented the first coal shute and owned the American Coal Shute Company which was located on Sussex Avenue and Buffington Street. He died shortly before the depression and the company was left to his 3 daughters who were not able to run it. Does anyone out there know anything about the Kollers and the American Coal Shute Company??? Reply to Judy at (fjbgator@worldnet.att.net) Thanks and happy new year. Judy in No. Carolina
