    2. Glenn G. Geisheimer
    3. Hello ECR's, Awhile ago someone asked me a question about Fairmount Cemetery and I've lost the email. Here's the information: The Fairmount Cemetery Association of the City of Newark was chartered in 1855 as a non-sectarian, non-profit organization to serve the community with a progressive and modern cemetery. This concept has produced the Fairmount Memorial Mausoleum in 1927 and the Fairmount Crematory in 1984 to provide a full service organization. With the merger in 1986 of Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge, NJ the Association changed its name to the Fairmount Cemetery Association of Newark and Somerset Hills to reflect its broadened area of service. The cemeteries are operated by a seven member Board of Managers . Glenn G. 1. Lovelace marriage? burial?
    2. I have found the burial of Mary K Lovelace by George B Lovelace in 1869 in Fairmount Cemetery, Newark, NJ. Mary was 26, married and died of peritonitis. Was George married to Mary? Was Mary married to a brother of George? George Lovelace married Elizabeth Riker, daughter of George and Elizabeth Riker, in 1872. Does anyone have access to NJ records? Thanks Doris Mayer Reece

    3. Hi Pat, The LDS has microfilmed the death, marriage and baptism records from St. Mary's Church in Newark. The death records cover 1858-1937 and are on microfilm #1398596. I hope that this helps. Janice Danks patricia sachs wrote: > Hi out there, > > I have a strange question to ask. I am researching a new person we > just found in the family. He was born in 1884. 3. Hello all you genealogy fanatics.... I need some answers to cut my research shorter. Glenn posted LDS film numbers for Holy Sepulchre on the web site. Awesome! What I am wondering is -- does anyone know exactly what info is contained on these films? I have 4 ancestors (different sides of families) all buried there, but I don't want to order films that will just reiterate info I already know. My other questions concerns naturalization information. I've found the declarations of intentions and the naturalization certificates from Essex Co. for a few of my ancestors. If I send to Essex Co. itself, what information will I receive? My girlfriend sent to Rockland Co. NY for naturalization stuff and received a wealth of info, including the height and weight of the immigrant, where he was from, the boat he came on,... and lots of other goodies. I am at a brick wall in almost all my research. I know approximately when my ancestors arrived in the US, and the country they were from, but I can't find any other info. Please help.. Thanks. 3. Hi out there, I have a strange question to ask. I am researching a new person we just found in the family. He was born in 1884. However, I don't know, but I think he died very young. Was there any special cemeteries in Newark for the children? I haven't found a death date yet. We are assuming he dies young because nobody really spoke of him much. The other possibility is that he was put up for adoption. If anyone knows of any cemetery or if you can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. I believe he was baptised in St.Mary's of Newark. Thanks, Pat ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

    3. Hello ECR's, I'm sorry but I have to step in on the LDS FHC discussion. This is a recurring discussion that happens on EVERY mailing list from time to time. (That line was brought to you by the Department of Reduncancy Department). Please stop the discussion. The bottom line is that the LDS FHC is run by volunteers. They have bad days and good days, there are good volunteers and bad volunteers, you know the rest. Glenn G. 1. Re: LDS FHCs
    2. Hello Essex Researchers, I have to put in my two cents regarding the Latter-Day-Saints' Family History Centers. It would be a shame for people to be scared away from at least checking them out. They are a wealth of information once you know your way around. I spent the better part of a week's vacation at the main FHC in Los Angeles back in Feb. 1997 and they treated me like family. This was my first visit to any FHC and I had no idea what I was doing. They couldn't have been more helpful in teaching me the ropes. They will not do your research for you, though. I find the FHC near where I live in Largo, FL to be friendly and courteous, but not necessarily as helpful. I think the thing we need to keep in mind is that these folks are volunteers and may not be especially proficient researchers themselves. It seems to me that some of them are more or less doing a secretarial function. Best regards to all. Liz France Searching JACOB in Newark, NJ

    1. Re: LDS Family History Centers
    2. To the List: I research at a local LDS Family History Center almost every week with a several other researchers none of whom are Mormon. We have never had a problem with any of the volunteers who staff the library; in fact, they couldn't be more helpful. I also go to Salt Lake to the main library once a year to do research. Never, in all the times I've been to either facility have I ever been treated with anything but kindness, generosity of spirit, and helpfulness. I personally think the elders of the Church would be appalled by any ungracious conduct toward researchers by their volunteers. Regards, Pat Giovanni Sunnyvale, CA

    3. Hi Robin, Thanks for your message. I was (kinda) aware that there were LDS centers in France. But .... a couple of years back I did contact the Paris center as you suggested, inquiring about the ordering of microfilm. Now, generally, I find the French wonderful (bright, polite and helpful -- not at all like their still somewhat bad reputation among some folks in the U.S., which lingers, I think, from de Gaulle days). However, in this case I got a VERY UNHELPFUL, UNFORTHCOMING, even UNFRIENDLY reception. So I gave up. Maybe I should try again? Dave McMane Paris

    2. Hi! While we are on the subject of the FH Centers. I have to agree with Dave. I am in Florida in the good old U.S. of A and I find the people at our local FHC to be almost outright RUDE! I have never gotten the warm reception I hear other people talking about. I am VERY uncomfortable conducting research in their library. Stacy stayc400@aol.com
